What is Tungsten carbide powder?
Fully called WolframCarbide, tungsten carbide powder is a black hexagonal crystal with a metallic lustre, and its hardness is similar to that of a diamond. It is a good conductor of electricity and heat. The melting point is 2870, the boiling point is 6000, and the relative density is 15.63(18). Tungsten carbide is insoluble in water, hydrochloric acid and sulfuric acid but soluble in the mixed acid of nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid.

Tungsten carbide powder is dark grey powder, which can be dissolved in various carbides, especially in titanium carbide, and forms TiC-WC solid melt.

Applications of Tungsten carbide powder
Tungsten carbide has catalytic properties and has important application value in the field of catalysis. A composite of new structured carbon material and tungsten carbide can further improve its catalytic performance. Tungsten carbide is widely used in hydrogenation; for example, it can convert some oxygenates into unsaturated hydrocarbons, and it can also be used for CO hydrogenation to produce mixed alcohols. In the experiment of ethylene catalytic hydrogenation, the catalytic activity of tungsten carbide is higher at 273K, which indicates that tungsten carbide has higher catalytic activity. Using tungsten carbide as a catalyst, the hydrogenation reaction of paraffin shows that tungsten carbide has a high conversion rate, selectivity and stability and is tolerant to sulfur-containing impurities in hydroisomerized raw materials. In the catalytic hydrogenation of toluene, carbon tungsten carbide catalyst has a certain influence on the catalytic activity, and its surface has more stable active sites for absorbing hydrogen atoms, which significantly reduces the activation energy of the reaction, thus having higher selectivity.
Manufacturing method of tungsten carbide powder
1. Using metal tungsten and carbon as raw materials, dry-mix tungsten powder with an average particle size of 3 ~ 5μ m with carbon black of equal amount with a ball mill, fully mix, press-shape, put into a graphite plate, and then heat to 1400 ~ 1700in a graphite resistance furnace or an induction furnace, preferably at 1550 ~ 1650. In the hydrogen flow, W2C was initially produced, and then it continued to react at high temperatures to produce WC. Or firstly, tungsten hexacarbonyl [W (CO) 6] is thermally decomposed at 650-1000in CO atmosphere to obtain tungsten powder and then reacts with carbon monoxide at 1150to obtain WC, and W2C can be generated when the temperature is higher than this temperature.
2. Tungsten trioxide WO3 was hydrogenated and reduced to obtain tungsten powder (average particle size 3 ~ 5 μ m). Then, the mixture of tungsten powder and carbon black in an equal molar ratio (dry-mixed with a ball mill for about 10 hours) is pressed and moulded under the pressure of about 1t/cm2. Put the pressed briquette into a graphite plate or crucible, heat it to 1400-1700(preferably 1550-1650) in hydrogen flow with a graphite resistance furnace or an induction furnace, and carburize it to produce WC. The reaction started around tungsten particles because W2C was formed at the initial stage of the reaction, and unreacted W and intermediate W2C remained beside WC due to incomplete reaction (mainly low reaction temperature). So it must be heated to the above-high temperature. The maximum temperature should be determined according to the grain size of raw tungsten. For example, coarse particles with an average particle size of about 150 μ m are reacted at a high temperature of 1550-1650.

Price of Tungsten carbide powder
Tungsten carbide powder particle size and purity will affect the product's price, and the purchase volume can also affect the cost of Tungsten carbide powder. A large amount of large amount will be lower. The price of Tungsten carbide powder can be found on our company's official website.
