What is Zinc stearate?
Zinc stearate is a white light fine powder, insoluble in water, ethanol and ether but soluble in hot ethanol, turpentine, benzene and other organic solvents and acids. Zinc is heated and dissolved in an organic solvent and then becomes jelly when it is cooled. When it meets strong acid, it is decomposed into stearic acid and corresponding zinc salt. Lubricating, hygroscopic, non-toxic, slightly irritating, pollution-free, and hazard-free.

Main applications of Zinc stearate
1. It is used in the pharmaceutical industry, preparation of curing oil and lubricant, and also as paint desiccant.
2. It is used as a stabilizer for PVC plastic products and a softener for rubber products.
3. It is used as softening lubricant for rubber products, a polishing agent for textiles and a stabilizer for PVC plastics.
4. It is used as a dispersant and heat stabilizer of polyethene, polystyrene, PVC and high-grade chemical fibre masterbatch in the petrochemical industry. Used for masterbatch (particle) as heat stabilizer, dispersant and lubricant.
5. It can also be used as a lubricant for styrene resin, including polystyrene, ABS and SAN resin, and a release agent for transparent products. In the rubber industry, this product can be used as a lubricant and diaphragm agent (anti-sticking) for rubber compounds, in addition. It can also be used as a textile polishing agent, paint flatting agent and cosmetic ingredient.
6. Metal soap powder. Used in the creation of fragrant powder, powder cake, etc. It is mainly used as an adhesive of perfume powder to increase the adhesion of perfume powder on the skin. Zinc stearate is light and soft, and when it is added to powder cosmetics, it is coated on the outside of other powders, which makes the powder easy to penetrate water. The additional amount is generally 5%-15%.
7. Anti-foaming agent. And a light and heat stabilizer. Paint flatting agent and abrasive. Feet drying lubricant and isolation agent. Stabilizer, release agent and lubricant for plastic products. Waterproof agent for concrete, brown asbestos, paper and fabric. Used in cosmetics and ointments.
Physical and chemical properties of zinc stearate
Zinc stearate is a fine hygroscopic powder with white colour and a good smell. Insoluble in water, ethanol and ether but soluble in acid, benzene, toluene and xylene. React with strong acid to produce stearic acid and corresponding zinc salt. Heating to dissolve in organic solvent and then cooling to obtain the gel. Low toxicity.
