What is Tungsten powder?
Tungsten powder is the raw material for preparing tungsten processing materials, tungsten alloys and tungsten products.
It has the advantages of high hardness, low vapour pressure and high density. The dense structure of tungsten makes it have stable chemical properties, which will not be oxidized at room temperature and will hardly be corroded by acid and alkali. In the presence of high temperatures and oxidants, tungsten can react with some acids and bases. For example, dense tungsten powder can be dissolved in aqua regia at 100 ~ 110. Tungsten has been widely used in many fields, such as cemented carbide, tungsten coating, special steel and chemical catalysts, because of its excellent physical and chemical properties, such as high melting boiling point and acid and alkali corrosion resistance.

Applications of Tungsten powder
Tungsten is mostly used to produce cemented carbide and ferrotungsten. A heat-resistant and wear-resistant alloy composed of tungsten, chromium, molybdenum and cobalt is used to make cutting tools, metal surface hardening materials, gas turbine blades and combustion tubes, etc. It is a refractory alloy with tantalum, niobium and molybdenum. Tungsten and tungsten-silver alloys are used as materials for electrical contacts. High-density W-Ni-Cu alloy is used as a shield against radiation. Tungsten wires, rods, sheets, etc. are used to make parts of electric bulbs, electronic tubes and electrodes for arc welding. Tungsten powder can be sintered into filters with various porosities. FW-1 is used as raw material for large slabs and tungsten-rhenium galvanic couples. FW-2 is used as a contact alloy and high-specific gravity shielding material. FWP-1 is used for plasma spraying materials. Tungsten powder is the main raw material for processing powder metallurgy tungsten products and tungsten alloys. Pure tungsten powder can be made into processed materials such as wires, rods, tubes and plates, and products with certain shapes. Tungsten powder can be mixed with other metal powders to make various tungsten alloys, such as W-Mo alloy, W-Re alloy, W-Cu alloy and high-density W alloy. Another important application of tungsten powder is to make tungsten carbide powder, and then to prepare cemented carbide tools, such as turning tools, milling cutters, drill bits and dies.
 
Manufacturing method of Tungsten powder
There are many methods to produce tungsten powder, one of which is the preparation of tungsten powder by hydrogen reduction reaction using tungsten trioxide as raw material. The traditional hydrogen reduction process is that tungsten trioxide obtained by roasting ammonium tungstate is reduced by two stages to obtaining tungsten powder. There are several problems in the preparation of tungsten powder by traditional methods, such as
1. Low reduction temperature, long reaction time and time-consuming;
2. The tubular reduction furnace is adopted, which is complicated in equipment and does not save energy;
3. The product purity is low, and it is difficult to produce continuously. CN201510177510 provides a preparation method for tungsten powder with a short preparation time and easy realization of large-scale production. The adopted technical scheme is:
(1) Na2WO4·5H2O is dissolved in distilled water, and CTABis added;
(2) dropwise adding hydrochloric acid solution, and stirring and mixing evenly by magnetic force;
(3) placing the mixed solution in a high-pressure reaction kettle for heating reaction;
(4) cooling to room temperature and filtering to obtain precipitate; Washing the precipitate, and drying;
(5) putting the dried precipitate into a muffle furnace for burning to obtain tungsten trioxide powder;
(6) placing tungsten trioxide powder in a plasma reaction chamber, ionizing inert gas in the reaction chamber to form high-temperature plasma, and heating the tungsten trioxide powder by the high-temperature plasma to reduce it into tungsten powder in a reducing atmosphere. In this method, sodium tungstate, CTAB and hydrochloric acid are used to prepare tungsten oxide, and then tungsten powder is prepared by the plasma arc method. Because of the great temperature difference between tungsten powder and cooling medium, nucleation is promoted and the growth of crystal nucleus is effectively inhibited, and the prepared tungsten powder can reach the nanometer level. Meanwhile, the method has the advantages of a simple process, short preparation time and easy realization of large-scale production.
