What is expandable graphite?
German Schaufautl first discovered expandable graphite. In 1841, Schaufautl soaked natural graphite in a mixture of concentrated HNO3 and concentrated H2SO4, and took it out for drying several hours later, It was found that the graphite had expanded. United Carbide first applied for a patent for the manufacturing technology of expandable graphite in 1963 and carried out industrial production in 1968. Graphite crystals have a hexagonal network plane layered structure composed of carbon elements. The carbon atoms on the layer plane are bound by strong covalent bonds, while van der Waals forces bind the layers. The binding is very weak, and the distance between layers is large. Therefore, under appropriate conditions, acid, alkali metal, and Various chemicals such as salts can be inserted into the graphite layers and combined with carbon atoms to form a new chemical phase, Graphite Intercalation on Compounds (GIC). When heated to an appropriate temperature, this kind of interlayer compound can rapidly decompose instantly, producing a large amount of gas, which makes graphite expand along the axis into a new worm-like material, namely expanded graphite. This unexpanded graphite interlayer compound is expandable graphite.

Application of Expandable Graphite
The sealing material mixes the raw material high carbon graphite with concentrated sulfuric acid and concentrated nitric acid for acidification treatment. After heat treatment, the flexible graphite is pressed into shape. The prepared, flexible graphite is a new high-performance sealing material and a nanomaterial grown in situ. Compared with traditional sealing materials such as asbestos rubber, it has good compressibility, resilience, self-adhesion, low density and other excellent properties. It can be used at high temperatures and is used for a long time under harsh working conditions such as high corrosion. Graphite plates and sealing elements are widely used in aerospace, machinery, electronics, nuclear energy, petrochemical, electric power, shipbuilding, smelting and other industries. Because of its excellent characteristics, such as lightweight, conductivity, heat conduction, high-temperature resistance, acid and alkali corrosion resistance, good resilience, lubrication, plasticity and chemical stability, it is known as the "king of seals" in the world. Expandable graphite obtained from high-temperature expansion in the field of environmental protection has a rich pore structure; as a result, expandable graphite has excellent adsorption performance, so it is widely used in environmental protection and biomedicine. The pore structure of expandable graphite includes open pore and closed pore, and the pore volume accounts for about 98%. Moreover, it is mainly macroporous, with a pore size distribution range of 1~10.3 nm. Because it is mainly macroporous and mesoporous, it differs from microporous materials such as activated carbon in adsorption characteristics.

Price of expandable graphite
Expandable graphite particle size and purity will affect the product's price, and the purchase volume can also affect the cost of expandable graphite. A large amount of large amount will be lower. The price of expandable graphite can be found on our company's official website.
