What is Zinc Sulfide?

Zinc Sulfide is an II-VI compound semiconductor material composed of sulfur and zinc. The molecular formula is ZnS; the molecular weight is 97.45; the melting point is 1020°C (15MPa), white crystal; chemical book lattice constant is 0.547nm, hexagonal crystal form; density is 4.08g/cm3. Almost insoluble in water but soluble in acid. Long-term storage in humid air will be converted into zinc sulfate.

The main use of zinc sulfide.

As an important di-, hexa-compound semiconductor, ZnS nanomaterials have attracted great attention not only because of their excellent physical properties, such as wide energy bandgap, high refractive index, and high light transmittance in the visible range, but also Their great potential applies to optical, electronic and optoelectronic devices. Zinc sulfide has an excellent fluorescence effect and electroluminescence function, and nano-zinc sulfide has a unique photoelectric effect, showing many excellent properties in the fields of electricity, magnetism, optics, mechanics, and catalysis, so the research of nano-zinc sulfide has attracted great attention. It has attracted more people's attention, especially in 1994, Bhargava reported that the surface passivated nano-ZnS: Mn phosphor not only has an external quantum efficiency as high as 18% at high temperatures but its fluorescence lifetime is shortened by five orders of magnitude, and it also emits light. The performance has changed a lot, and a new way has been opened up for the application of ZnS in materials. It can be used to make white pigments and glass, luminescent powder, rubber, plastic, luminescent paint, etc.

How to store Zinc Sulfide powder.

Store in a ventilated, dry warehouse; avoid open storage. Containers must be tightly sealed to protect them from moisture.

Zinc sulfide is stable.

1. If it is used and stored according to the specifications, it will not decompose, there is no known dangerous reaction, and oxides and acids should be avoided.

2. α-ZnS is a colorless hexagonal crystal; the relative density is 3.98, the melting point is 1700±20°C (at 5.066×106Pa), and sublimates when the temperature is higher than 1180°C; it is almost insoluble in water and acetic acid, and easily soluble in other acids. β-ZnS is a colorless cubic crystal; the relative density is 4.102 (25°C), and the transformation temperature is 1020°C; it is almost insoluble in water but easily soluble in acid.

Is Zinc Sulfide Toxic?

Zinc sulfide is toxic, corrosive, and irritating to the skin. A large amount of zinc entering the body can cause dizziness, vomiting, and diarrhea. Therefore, operators should wear overalls and protective equipment. The workshop should be well-ventilated.
