And recently, researchers at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia have developed a more effective method to produce these graphite cooling devices.


Specifically, the research team used a technique called chemical vapor deposition (CVD) to grow nano-thick graphite films (NGF) on nickel foil. In this technique, nickel catalyzes the conversion of hot methane gas to its surface. graphite. It is worth mentioning that the thickness of the graphite film formed on the surface of the nickel foil is only 100 nanometers.
The team calls these films nano-thick graphite films (NGFs), which are created by placing the material at a temperature of about 900°C. In this process, graphite films are formed on both sides of the foil, which can grow into 55 square centimeters (8.52 inches) sheets. These films can be extracted and transferred to other surfaces.
In addition, the researchers also collaborated with electron microscopy expert Alessandro Genovese to take a cross-sectional transmission electron microscope (TEM) image of NGF on the nickel surface. The researchers said that observing the interface between graphite films and nickel foil is an unprecedented achievement that will further clarify the growth mechanism of these films.
This not only provides a cheaper and more robust solution for the materials used for thermal management in flexible mobile phones on the market in the future, but other applications of NGF, such as reasonable visible light transparency, can also be used as components of solar cells or used for detection.
