The First Artificial 3D Eyeball Made With New Technology

Life will not always be the same, people will inevitably encounter some accidents in life, some of them may cause damage to life, including blindness. Seven million people around the world go blind each year, and for us humans, 80% of our sensory information from the outside world comes from our eyes. This shows the importance of the eyes. If the eye is damaged then our normal life may be disrupted or directly affect our later life. China has a population of 1.4 billion. With such a large base, there are more than 10 million blind people, which is still quite a number. Although China ranks among the world's top organ donors each year, the demand still exceeds the supply. It is no longer a myth that millions of blind people will see the light again, according to a recent study published by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

Working Principle of The Artificial 3D Eyeball

Researchers at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology have recently designed the world's first 3D artificial eyeball, according to a study published in the journal Nature. According to its designers, the 3D artificial eye USES tiny sensors to mimic the light-sensitive cells of a normal human eye, and USES nanoscale aluminum and tungsten to create a hemispherical shape of the human retina on which the sensor is placed. The team explained that the artificial eye is similar in size and shape to a human eye and has the potential to achieve high resolution imaging. Imaging principle is carried out by artificial eye of many sensors to collect information, after gathering information is converted to electrical signals to pass to mimic human retina in aluminum and tungsten is half spherical membrane, the resolution of the theory can reach or surpass the human eyes, and all frequencies within the film in visible spectrum are sensitive to light

Our human eye is generally made up of three parts: the cornea and sclera, the iris and choroid, and the retina. Human eye imaging USES the eye to convert light stimuli into nerve impulses that are transmitted to the brain to form images. When light from the outside world comes in, light comes in and shows the object to the retina. And then we get a signal through the brain, and that's what we see. With the development of light sensitive materials and devices, current technologies can indeed simulate the process of eye imaging. But there are some hurdles to overcome before the technology can actually work as well as the human eye. For example, the human eye can adapt to different levels of light. In addition, the human eye fidgets to maintain its sensitivity when it looks at a stationary object, leading to the illusion that a particular image "moves". People with a 3D artificial eye may lose this illusion. Animal and clinical trials are currently planned and are expected to be in use within five years. It is expected to bring hope to five million people.

The Application Prospect of This Technology

This artificial eye has a higher sensitivity and sensitivity, and can even eliminate blind spots in human vision. It is also the world's first artificial 3D eyeball. In addition to helping individuals improve their vision, the researchers say the technology could be used to make other optical sensory devices. Although artificial eyes have been designed, the problem of converting optical information into brain waves is still not solved in the short term, so the technology is still some way from being put into practice. So we should pay attention to protect their eyes.
