Description

What is Fiberglass aerogel blanket?
Fiberglass aerogel blanket is a flexible thermal insulation material with nano-silica aerogel as the main ingredient and composite with glass fiber. Specifically:

1. Main material: the core part of the aerogel blanket is composed of nano-scale silica aerogel. Silica aerogel is a highly porous, lightweight solid material whose internal structure is formed by interconnected networks of nanoparticles that are filled with air or other gases. This unique structure gives the aerogel a very low density and very low thermal conductivity, making it an extremely good insulation material.

2. Composite process: In order to enhance the mechanical properties of the aerogel and to accommodate the mounting, bending, and shearing requirements of real-world applications, the aerogel is laminated to a fiberglass substrate. Fiberglass is a commonly used reinforcing material known for its high strength, high-temperature resistance, chemical stability, and good insulating properties. Through special technology, silica aerogel and glass fiber mat (or cotton) are closely combined to form a composite material with both excellent thermal insulation properties and certain mechanical stability.

Fiberglass aerogel blanket Physical properties:
   - Low thermal conductivity: the thermal conductivity of aerogel blanket is usually in the range of 0.017 to 0.023 W/(m-K), or even lower, which means that it is very weak in the conduction of heat, and it can effectively prevent the transfer of heat, which is suitable for a variety of occasions that require efficient heat preservation or cold preservation.
   - Tensile and compressive strength: due to the addition of glass fibers as reinforcing material, aerogel blanket has a certain tensile and compressive resistance and is able to maintain shape stability under certain stress conditions, which is conducive to the use in complex structures or dynamic environments.
   - Flexibility and construction convenience: as a flexible rolled material, the aerogel blanket is easy to cut, wind and stick to various shapes of surfaces, which is highly adaptable and convenient for construction and installation.

FAQs of Fiberglass aerogel blanket
Q: What is an aerogel blanket?
- An aerogel blanket is an ultra-light, flexible insulation material made from a gel where the liquid component has been replaced with gas. It's known for its low thermal conductivity and high insulating value.

Q: What blanket has the highest R-value?
- The blanket with the highest R-value often includes silica aerogel; it can achieve R-values of 10 or higher per inch, making it one of the most effective insulations available for its thickness.

Q: What are the disadvantages of silica aerogel?
- Disadvantages of silica aerogel include its relatively high cost, potential for dust production which may cause skin irritation, and the need for careful handling due to its brittle nature when not in composite form.

Q: What is the difference between silica aerogel and aerogel?
- Silica aerogel is a specific type of aerogel, primarily composed of silicon dioxide. The term "aerogel" is broader, referring to any gel where the liquid phase has been removed, including those made from materials other than silica.
