Calcium Ligninsulfonate Properties

Overview of Calcium Ligninsulfonate
Lignin is the second most abundant natural polymer with aromatic structure in nature, and is an extremely important renewable biological resource. The depletion of traditional mineral resources and the enhancement of human environmental awareness have brought strong impetus to the basic research of lignin and the industrial utilization. Calcium lignosulfonate is a derivative of lignin, and its modified preparation of surfactants has flourished in recent years and has made significant progress. Modified products are widely used in industrial and agricultural production.
Calcium lignosulfonate is one of the lignin derivatives obtained in the pulp industry. Its molecular structure basically retains the structural characteristics of lignin, namely the phenylpropane unit structure and a large number of ether bond connection structures, and a large number of sulfonic acid groups are also introduced on its side chains. Therefore, when subjected to heating treatment, there should be some condensation reactions between and within the molecules of calcium lignosulfonate. Obviously, studying its thermal behavior and understanding the changes in the chemical structure and corresponding physical properties of calcium lignosulfonate under heating conditions is essential for the application of calcium lignosulfonate itself and its derivatives.

Performance of Calcium Ligninsulfonate
Calcium lignosulfonate is a brownish yellow powder with good water solubility and a loose capacity of about 0.35g/cubic centimeter. It is an anionic surfactant, non-toxic, and has a pungent odor. The calcium lignosulfonate dry powder can be made from the waste liquid of sulfite wood pulp as the raw material, neutralized by lime milk, bio fermented and sugar removed, evaporated and concentrated to a solid content of 50%, and then dried by spray.

Production Method of Calcium Ligninsulfonate
Using sodium sulfite pulp waste liquid as raw material, it is obtained by settling with lime water, acid dissolution, filtering to remove impurities, and concentrating the filtrate.

 Application of Calcium Ligninsulfonate
Anionic surfactants
Calcium lignosulfonate is a multi-component anionic surfactant of high molecular weight polymers, abbreviated as lignosulfonate, and sodium lignosulfonate superplasticizer are a type of surfactant. They are linear polymer compounds with a brownish yellow powder appearance and a slight aromatic odor. The average relative molecular weight is about 20000. They are acidified and sulfonated using advanced production technology from sulfite pulping wood pulp waste liquid Anionic surfactants refined by modification and other processes are made by connecting derivatives of phenylpropane through C-O bonds and C-C chains. They have supramolecular properties and high specific surface area, and contain a large number of functional groups such as phenolic hydroxyl, methoxy, benzyl hydroxyl, carbonyl, carboxyl, vinyl, etc. Calcium lignosulfonate has strong decomposability, cohesiveness and crabbing ability, and has been widely used as pesticide filler, emulsification dispersant, water suspension and emulsion, concrete water reducer, cement water reducer and mold aid, printing and dyeing auxiliaries, compound fertilizer, resin, leather tanning agent, mineral powder binder, ceramic additives, refractory plasticizer and binder, casting, oil well or dam grouting gel agent, mineral processing dispersant, feed additive Other chemical deep processing fields such as coal water slurry dispersants and additives, carbon black granulators, asphalt emulsification chemical pesticides, etc.

Application of Calcium Ligninsulfonate

Concrete water reducing agent
Calcium lignosulfonate is used as a concrete water reducing agent, which has adsorption and dispersion effects on cement and can improve various physical properties of concrete. After being added to concrete, due to the directional adsorption of hydrophobic groups on the surface of cement particles, the cement carries a negative charge. Cement particles with the same charge repel and disperse with each other under the action of charge repulsion. The flocculent structure formed by cement in the early stage of water addition becomes a dispersed structure, and the free water in the flocculent aggregate is released, thereby achieving the purpose of water reducing agent. The main characteristics are as follows:

  1. The dosage is 0.20-0.30% of the cement dosage, the commonly used dosage is 0.25%, and the water consumption can be reduced by 8-12%.

  2. Without changing the water content of concrete, it can increase the fluidity of concrete, improve workability, and enhance engineering quality.

  3. By maintaining the slump of concrete and maintaining the same strength as the benchmark concrete, cement can be saved by 8-10%.

  4. It has slight air entrainment and can improve the impermeability, freeze-thaw resistance of concrete.

  5. After being added to concrete, this agent has no corrosive effect on steel bars and aggregates. Lignosulfonate calcium water reducing agent is suitable for large volume concrete, high flow concrete, pumped concrete, commercial concrete, summer concrete construction, as well as concrete with special requirements for retarding setting, cast-in-place pile concrete, immersed pipe pile concrete, manually excavated hole concrete, and under ground large volume concrete construction. It is generally used in combination with high-efficiency water reducing agents.
