The unreacted SiO2 impurity must be removed by hydrofluoric acid with strong corrosivity. The difficult impurity removal task hinders the industrial application of the self-propagation method. In addition, according to the current data, SiO2 can only be reduced by magnesium powder. The actual temperature in the reaction is very high, and a large amount of magnesium powder must be used in a single large-scale production; this may cause an explosion. The preparation of nano-silicon powder by the self-propagating method is still at the laboratory research stage, and it is expected that magnesium powder will be used as an alternative reductant to solve the problems above.
