What is spherical tungsten powder?
Spherical tungsten powder with a melting point of about 3400℃, a boiling point of about 5555℃, a density is 19.3g/cm3 equivalent to gold, hardness like a diamond, strong reduction, purity up to 99.9%, a loose density of 11.6g/cm3, vibration density 12.5g/cm3. It has been mixed and dissolved in nitric and hydrofluoric acid and melted with sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate. Microsoluble in nitric acid, sulfuric acid, and royal water; insoluble in water, hydrofluoric acid, and potassium hydroxide. There are two variants of tungsten, A and B. The A-form is a stable body-centered cubic structure at standard temperature and atmospheric pressure. Type B tungsten occurs only in the presence of oxygen. It is stable below 630℃ and then converted into A-tungsten above 630℃, and the process is irreversible.
Main uses of spherical tungsten powder
Spherical tungsten powder is the main raw material of tungsten alloy, tungsten material, and carbide. W powder, mixed with other metal powder for tungsten alloy; W powder can get tungsten materials such as tungsten rod, tungsten wire, and tungsten strip; W powder can make tungsten carbide powder by carbon treatment, and tungsten carbide powder can make hard carbide tools such as milling cutter, drill bit and mold. High-density tungsten nickel-copper alloy is used as a protective screen against radiation. Wire, rods, and pieces of tungsten are used to make electric bulbs, tube components, and arc-welding electrodes. Tungsten powder can be fired into various porosity filters.
Method of production of spherical tungsten powder
Products are obtained by secondary oxidation and reduction of tungsten powder, spherical powder by granulation, DC arc plasma by a rotating electrode, large particle powder from tungsten hexafluoride by vapor deposition, and air-cooled by induction coupling plasma torch. Reduction with hydrogen can be carried out in two stages. In the first stage, tungsten trioxide is heated to 550~800℃, reduced with hydrogen. The second stage is reduced at 650-850℃ to make the finished tungsten powder or hydrogen from secondary ammonium tungstate or no hydrogen to blue tungsten oxide (blue tungsten) and then reduced to tungsten powder with hydrogen. The particle size and composition of tungsten powder are important quality indexes of tungsten powder. Reduction is made in a tubular electric furnace or a rotary electric furnace.
