How to produce spherical tungsten powder?

There are five main production methods for spherical tungsten powder as follows:

Secondary oxidation and then reduction method of tungsten powder: although the manufacturing cost is lower, the sphericalization is not sufficient.

Granulation and sintering method: Spherical tungsten powder with a particle size of 40-750μm can be produced, but the density of tungsten powder is not high, the diameter of the particles is larger, and the powder is coarser.

Tungsten Hexafluoride Raw Material Method: Spherical tungsten powder with fine particles (3~5μm) can be produced, but the production conditions are relatively harsh due to the strong corrosive gases involved, and its large-scale production is still some distance away in today's society against the background of high environmental protection requirements.

Arc spray gun method: a simple SCDP-3 type arc spray gun transmission control two self-consuming electrode tungsten wire intersection arc melting, followed by compressed air atomization into spherical tungsten powder. The spherical tungsten powder produced by this method has a quite wide particle size distribution, and the coarse powder can be used to manufacture filters, and the fine powders can be used to make porous tungsten ionizer. It has the advantages of simple equipment and low cost, but the production efficiency is low not conducive to industrialized production.

Plasma method: Add ordinary tungsten powder into the plasma jet fluid so that the surface of tungsten powder particles (or the whole) melt, forming molten droplets. The molten droplets shrink to form a spherical shape due to surface tension, and then the spherical shape is fixed by rapid cooling, thus obtaining spherical tungsten powder.

Manufacture of tungsten alloy: Spherical tungsten powder can be mixed with other metallic powders to make tungsten alloy.

Preparation of tungsten materials: after processing, spherical tungsten powder can get tungsten rods, tungsten wires, tungsten bars, and other tungsten materials.

Making tungsten carbide tools: Spherical tungsten powder can be made into tungsten carbide WC powder after carbon treatment, and then can be made into tungsten carbide tools, such as milling cutters, drills, and molds.

As raw material for powder metallurgy: In the process of powder metallurgy, the press blank of spherical tungsten powder shrinks very uniformly during sintering, which can achieve good size control.

For special material preparation: Spherical tungsten powder has attracted a lot of attention due to its unique properties, and has been applied in electronic information, plate industry, porous material preparation, and other fields.

As components of propellers and other equipment, for example, spherical tungsten powder is gradually replacing conventional tungsten powder in the fields of satellite positioning propellers, cathodes of high-power pulsed microwave tubes, and rocket nozzle bushings.


Storage Condition of spherical tungsten powder :

Damp reunion will affect W powder dispersion performance and using effects, therefore,  spherical tungsten powder should be sealed in vacuum packing and stored in cool and dry room, the  spherical tungsten powder  can not be exposure to air. In addition, the W powder should be avoided under stress.
