What is VN powder?
Vanadium carbide has two crystal structures: first, V3N, hexagonal crystal structure, extremely high hardness, the microhardness of about 1900HV, and unmeasurable melting point; The second is VN, with a density of 6.13, a relative molecular weight of 64.95, a face-centered cubic crystal structure, a microhardness of about 1520HV and a melting point of 2,360 degrees. They all have high wear resistance. Taking the construction industry as an example, the new three-grade steel bar produced by vanadium-nitrogen alloying technology not only enhances the safety and earthquake resistance of the building but also saves 10% ~ 15% more steel than the second-grade steel bar because of its increased strength. This alone can save about 7.5 million tons of steel bars, 12.4 million tons of iron concentrate, 6.6 million tons of coal, and 3.3 million tons of related auxiliary raw materials annually in China. At the same time, carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions are greatly reduced, and the double benefits of resource conservation and environmental protection are achieved.

The applications of Vanadium carbide
Vanadium nitride is a better steelmaking additive than high vanadium iron. Using vanadium nitride as an additive, the nitrogen component in vanadium nitride can promote the precipitation of vanadium after hot working, and make the precipitation particles finer, thus improving the weldability and formability of steel. They are used as the raw material of cemented carbide to produce wear-resistant and semiconductor films. It is a new and efficient vanadium alloy additive that can produce high-strength low alloy steel products such as high-strength welded steel bars, non-quenched and tempered steel, high-speed tool steel, and high-strength pipeline steel. Vanadium-nitrogen alloy can strengthen and refine grain more effectively, save 30% ~ 50% vanadium compared with ferrovanadium, and greatly improve steel strength and reduce steelmaking costs. It is often used as the raw material of cemented carbide to produce wear-resistant and semiconductor films.
The addition of vanadium nitride to steel can improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of steel such as strength, toughness, ductility and thermal fatigue resistance, and make the steel have good weldability.
When the same strength is reached, adding vanadium nitride can save 30-40% of vanadium addition, thereby reducing costs. Vanadium-nitrogen alloy can be used in structural steel, tool steel, pipe steel, rebar and cast iron.
The vanadium-nitrogen alloy used in high-strength low-alloy steel can simultaneously carry out effective vanadium and nitrogen microalloying, promote the precipitation of carbon, vanadium, and nitrogen compounds in the steel, and more effectively play the role of settlement strengthening and grain refinement.

Chemical properties of VN powder
Black cubic crystal. It contains 19.08% carbon and belongs to the sodium chloride cubic system. The melting point is 2810℃, the boiling point is 3900℃, and the relative density is 5.77. Soluble in nitric acid, cold water, hydrochloric acid, and sulfuric acid. It can be melted with potassium nitrate. The chemical property is stable and resistant to chemical corrosion.
