What is ZrN powder?
Zirconium nitride =105.2, density 7.09g/cm3, light yellow powder. ZrN is a hard refractory compound with high decomposition temperature and good chemical stability, so it has good high-temperature, corrosion, and wear resistance. It is a good high-temperature structural material, superhard tool, and surface protection material. Meanwhile, ZrN thin film has a golden color with low brightness that people like and is suitable for fields where titanium nitride is not suitable for coating and has high corrosion resistance, smooth surface, and flexibility.
ZrN grown by physical vapor deposition (PVD) is lightly golden, similar to elemental gold. The room temperature resistivity of ZrN is 12.0μΩ·cm, the temperature coefficient of resistivity is 5.6·10-8Ω·cm/K, the superconducting transition temperature is 10.4K, and the relaxation lattice parameter is 0.4575nm. The hardness of single-crystal ZrN is 22.7±1.7 GPa, and the elastic modulus is 450 GPa.
 
The applications of ZrN carbide
Zirconium nitride has high hardness (~15 GPa) 10, high melting point (2980±50°C), good thermal conductivity (45-50 W/mK), low resistivity, good wear resistance and good corrosion resistance Sex. It has attracted widespread attention and found many applications, such as coatings for thermal barriers and mold settings for material processing, refractories and diffusion barriers.
1. Preparation method of zirconium nitride
The synthesis of zirconium nitride powder mainly includes direct nitridation of Zr metal with nitrogen, high-energy reactive ball milling (RBM, microwave plasma method, benzene thermal method, aluminum reduction nitridation, magnesium thermal reduction, carbothermal reduction nitridation ( CRN), etc.
 1. Direct nitriding of metallic zirconium and nitrogen at a temperature of 1100~1200°C.
2. Using the zirconium tetrachloride method. Using zirconium tetrachloride and ammonia as raw materials to prepare zirconium nitride, the reaction formula is as follows.  
    3ZrCl4 + 4NH3→Zr3N4 + 12HCl
    2Zr3N4→6ZrN + N2
Zirconium tetrachloride first forms an adduct with ammonia, and then it is heated to 750°C to be converted into zirconium tetranitride (Zr3N4), and further heated to 1200°C to be converted into zirconium nitride (ZrN). In the presence of sulfuric acid, ammonia reacts above 1000°C to produce zirconium nitride.
