What is silicon nitride?
Silicon nitride is an inorganic substance with the chemical formula Si3N4. It is an important structural ceramic material, which was first developed in the 1960s when materials science and engineering were recognized as a research field of comparable value to metallurgy. The basic goal of most ceramic research in the 1960s and 1970s was to develop compact engineering materials with high strength and toughness. Silicon nitride has been successful in all aspects. Silicon nitride because of its hardness, lubrication, wear resistance, atomic crystal, and oxidation resistance at high temperatures. And it can also resist the impact of cold and heat, heating in the air to more than 1000℃, sharp cooling, and then sharp heating will not break. Main uses of silicon nitride
Silicon nitride is used as advanced refractory, such as sic for SI3N4-SIC refractory for blast furnace body, such as BN as SI3N4-BN, for horizontal continuous casting separation ring. The SI3N4-BN series is a fine ceramic material with a uniform structure and high mechanical strength. Good heat and impact resistance will not be wet by liquid steel, in line with the process requirements of continuous casting. With its unique intersection of chemical and thermodynamic properties, silicon nitride can be easily deployed in some of the most hostile working environments in the world. Therpressed silicon nitride has excellent high-temperature performance and is ideal for sealing surface assemblies with challenging conditions, including boiler water reactor pumps, pressurized water reactor pumps, corrosive boric acid water service, and within rotating bearings. Pump components composed of silicon nitride are also used in the oil and gas industry and throughout the petrochemical industry. The chemical integrity of Si 3N4 makes it suitable for the surfaces of the pump that frequently come into contact with abrasive mud and corrosive fluids (impeller, shafts, seals, etc.)
