What is Inconel 718
Inconel 718 is a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy designed to resist a wide range of severely corrosive environments, pitting, and crevice corrosion.

This nickel-steel alloy exhibits extremely high yield, tensile, and creep fracture properties at high temperatures. Applications of this nickel alloy range from low temperatures to long-term use at 1200°F.
One of the notable features of the composition of Inconel 718 is that niobium is added to allow age hardening, thus allowing annealing and welding, without spontaneously hardening during heating and cooling. The addition of niobium along with molybdenum hardens the alloy matrix and provides high strength without intensive heat treatment.  Other popular Ni-Cr alloys are age-hardened by the addition of aluminum and titanium.
This nickel-steel alloy is easy to manufacture and can be welded under annealing or precipitation (aging) hardening conditions.

Inconel 718 Key Properties
Good mechanical properties: tensile, fatigue, and creep fracture;
The yield tensile strength, creep and fracture strength properties are very high;
Highly resistant to chloride and sulfide stress corrosion cracking;
Resistant to water corrosion and chloride stress corrosion cracking;
High temperature resistant;
Aging hardening, with unique characteristics of slow aging response, allows heating and cooling during the annealing process without the risk of cracking;
Excellent welding characteristics, anti-aging cracking after welding.

Inconel 718 Powder Application
Inconel 718 is used in a variety of industries, such as aerospace, chemical processing, Marine engineering, pollution control equipment, and nuclear reactors. It is used for cryogenic storage tanks, downhole wellbore, and wellhead components. In the aerospace industry, it has emerged as a prime candidate for the manufacture of heat-resistant turbines.

What is Inconel
Inconel is a registered trademark of Special Metals Corporation for the austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloy family.
Inconel alloys are resistant to oxidation and corrosion and are ideal for use in extreme environments under pressure and heat. When heated, Inconel forms a thick and stable passivated oxide layer that protects the surface from further erosion. Inconel maintains strength over a wide temperature range and is attractive for high-temperature applications where aluminum and steel succumb to creep due to thermally induced crystal vacancies. The high-temperature strength of Inconel is increased by solution strengthening or precipitation hardening, depending on the alloy.

Inconel alloys are typically used for high-temperature applications, including:
Inconel 625 alloys include: Inconel 625, Chronin 625, Altemp 625, Haynes 625, Nickelvac 625, and Nicrofer 6020.
Inconel 600 alloys include: NA14, N06600, BS3076, 2.4816, NiCr15Fe (FR), NiCr15Fe (EU), and NiCr15Fe8 (DE).
Inconel 718 includes: Nicrofer 5219, Superimphy 718, Haynes 718, Pyromet 718, Supermet 718, and Udimet 718.
