What is Molybdenum disulfide?
Molybdenum disulfide is a solid black powder with a metallic lustre. Chemical formula 2, melting point 1185, density 4.80g/cm3(14), MoS2 hardness 1.0 ~ 1.5. It begins to decompose at 370and decomposes into molybdenum and sulfur at 1600. When heated at 35in air, it begins to be oxidized, the temperature rises and the oxidation reaction is accelerated. Molybdenum disulfide is insoluble in water, dilute acid and concentrated sulfuric acid, generally insoluble in other acids, alkalis and organic solvents, but soluble in aqua regia and boiled concentrated sulfuric acid.

Main applications of Molybdenum disulfide
Molybdenum disulfide is an important solid lubricant, especially suitable for high temperatures and high pressure. It also has diamagnetism, can be used as a linear photoconductor and a semiconductor with P-type or N-type conductivity, and has the functions of rectification and transduction. Molybdenum disulfide can also be used as a catalyst for the dehydrogenation of complex hydrocarbons. It is also known as "the king of advanced solid lubricating oil". Molybdenum disulfide is a solid powder made from natural molybdenum concentrate powder by chemical purification and changing its molecular structure. This product is slightly silver-grey in colour, metallic in lustre, greasy to the touch and insoluble in water. The product has the advantages of good dispersibility and non-binding and can be added to various oils to form a non-bonding colloidal state, which can increase the lubricity and extreme pressure of oils. It is also suitable for high-temperature, high-pressure, high-speed and high-load mechanical working conditions, thus prolonging the service life of the equipment. The main function of molybdenum disulfide used in friction materials is to reduce friction at low temperatures, increase friction at high temperatures, have small loss on ignition, and be volatile in friction materials.
Friction reduction: Molybdenum disulfide, which is pulverized by supersonic airflow, has a particle size of 325-2500 meshes, a micro-particle hardness of 1-1.5 and a friction coefficient of 0.05-0.1, so it can play an antifriction role when used in friction materials;
Mo: Molybdenum disulfide is not conductive, and there are copolymers of Molybdenum disulfide, Molybdenum trisulfide and Molybdenum trioxide. When the temperature of friction material rises sharply due to friction, the molybdenum trioxide particles in the copolymer expand with the increase in temperature, which plays a role in increasing friction.
Oxidation prevention: Molybdenum disulfide is obtained by chemical purification and comprehensive reaction, and its PH value is 7-8, which is slightly alkaline. It covers the surface of friction materials, which can protect other materials and prevent them from being oxidized, especially making other materials not easy to fall off, and enhance the adhesion force;

Chemical properties of Molybdenum disulfide
At 400, slow oxidation occurs, and molybdenum trioxide is formed: 2 MoS2+ 7 O22 MoO3+ 4 SO2. The molybdenum trioxide formed can be tested by iron. Firstly, the product is treated with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide solution (the principle is to convert molybdenum trioxide into molybdate), and then the iron solution is dripped, which will react with the generated sodium molybdate or potassium molybdate to produce a golden yellow solution. This method is so sensitive that trace molybdate can be detected. However, if no molybdenum trioxide is produced, the solution will not produce golden colour because molybdenum disulfide does not react with sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide solution. Molybdenum disulfide can react with chlorine to form molybdenum pentachloride: 2 MoS2+ 7 Cl22 MoCl5+ 2 S2Cl2. Molybdenum disulfide reacts with alkyl lithium under controlled conditions to form intercalation compound (sandwich compound) LixMoS2. If it reacts with butyl lithium, the product is LiMoS2. Molybdenum disulfide has a high content of active sulfur, which is easy to corrode copper. It is discussed in many books and papers about lubricant additives. In addition, when parts made of copper and their alloys need lubrication, it is not impossible to choose lubricating products containing molybdenum disulfide, but it is also necessary to add copper corrosion inhibitors.

Price of Molybdenum disulfide
Molybdenum disulfide particle size and purity will affect the product's price, and the purchase volume can also affect the cost of Molybdenum disulfide. A large amount of large amount will be lower. The price of Molybdenum disulfide can be found on our company's official website.
