LUOYANG, China, July 1, 2026 — TRUNNANO (Luoyang Tongrun Nano Technology Co., Ltd.), a National High-Tech Enterprise with over 12 years of experience in advanced nanomaterials, today announced the official launch of its Battery Materials Division. The division’s initial product portfolio centers on layered oxide cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries, covering O3-type, P2-type, P2/O3 biphasic, single-crystal, and high-entropy systems. This move positions TRUNNANO in the rapidly expanding energy storage market, addressing growing global demand for cost-effective and resource-abundant battery solutions.

I.Why Now?

The sodium-ion battery market is moving fast. China’s shipments hit 7 GWh in 2025, and industry projections put that number above 200 GWh by 2030 — that is nearly 100% annual growth. At the same time, the lithium battery sector is ramping up in the second half of 2026, pushing manufacturers to look for alternatives that can complement existing technologies.
So why sodium-ion? Cost is a big part of it. Lithium prices have been volatile, and sodium is far more abundant and cheaper to source. Layered oxides, the material family TRUNNANO is working on, also happen to work well with existing lithium-ion production lines — meaning battery makers can adopt them without major retooling. Governments across major economies are also backing diversified energy storage, which adds further momentum.
TRUNNANO is stepping in at the right time. Battery manufacturers are actively looking for new suppliers and next-generation cathode materials, and the company’s offerings are designed to fit that need.

II.Why TRUNNANO?

This is not a business pivot for TRUNNANO — it is a natural step forward. The company was founded in 2014 and became a National High-Tech Enterprise in 2018. Over the years, it has built a solid materials platform that includes nano metal powders, nano oxides, carbon nanomaterials, and high-purity compounds, serving customers in more than 50 countries.
What sets TRUNNANO apart is its control over materials at the “source powder” level — engineering particle properties from the ground up. That kind of precision matters when you are making battery materials, where purity and consistency are non-negotiable. Unlike startups that focus only on batteries, TRUNNANO comes with existing production facilities, established quality systems, and a global supply chain already in place. That means faster scale-up and more reliable delivery for customers.
The company’s experience with multi-element synthesis and high-volume manufacturing also translates directly to layered oxide cathodes — a product category where precise doping and batch-to-batch consistency are what make or break commercial success.

III.Product Portfolio: Six Series, Broad Coverage

TRUNNANO’s sodium-ion cathode materials are built on a Ni-Fe-Mn ternary system, with additional variants based on Cu, Ti, Co, Cr, and pure Mn compositions. The product line covers the main application areas: grid storage, low-speed EVs, two-wheelers, and portable electronics.

The company offers six core series:
Series Key Metric Best For What Makes It Different
Classic Ternary (O3/P2/Biphasic) Ton-scale production General storage Proven performance, ready to scale
High-Ni Single-Crystal 168 mAh/g High-end power batteries Single-crystal structure resists cracking
High-Entropy & Biphasic Synergy 2,000+ cycles Long-duration storage Entropy stabilization for better thermal stability
Cu/Ti-Based Low-Cost Co/Ni-free Grid storage Lower cost, air-stable
Li-Doped High-Capacity 200–210 mAh/g High-energy applications Oxygen redox activation boosts capacity
P3-Type High-Entropy Fast charging Rate-critical applications High sodium-ion diffusion speed
Each series targets a specific use case, so customers can pick what fits their needs without trade-offs.
The Ni-Fe-Mn system delivers solid all-around performance and is already running at ton-scale. The high-nickel single-crystal series hits 168 mAh/g, and the single-crystal structure helps prevent micro-cracking over time — a key factor for long-term durability.
For long-duration storage, the high-entropy and biphasic series use entropy stabilization to suppress unwanted phase changes, reaching over 2,000 cycles with better thermal stability. The Cu/Ti-based series drops cobalt and nickel entirely, keeping costs down while maintaining air stability — a clear choice for large-scale grid projects where price per kWh matters most. The lithium-doped series pushes capacity to 200–210 mAh/g via oxygen redox, targeting high-energy-density applications. The P3-type high-entropy series has a larger layer spacing and faster sodium-ion diffusion, making it a strong candidate for fast-charging scenarios.

IV.Proprietary Technology: Solving Real Problems

Layered oxides are often seen as the most practical cathode option for sodium-ion batteries. They offer good capacity and work with existing lithium-ion manufacturing equipment. But they come with known issues: structural degradation during cycling, complex phase changes that hurt voltage stability, and sensitivity to air and moisture that complicates handling.
TRUNNANO has spent years working on these problems. The company’s technical toolbox includes elemental doping to lock crystal structures in place, biphasic designs that combine the strengths of different phases, surface coatings that protect against air exposure, high-entropy formulations that suppress phase transitions, and single-crystal processing that removes grain boundaries — a common source of cracking.
These approaches work together to improve cycle life, rate capability, and air stability. The high-entropy series is a good example: entropy stabilization changes how the material behaves during phase transitions, and that difference shows up in real-world testing.

V.Where It Goes and Who It Serves

TRUNNANO’s cathode materials are designed for real-world use. For grid storage, the Cu/Ti-based and high-entropy series offer the cycle life and cost structure needed for long-term deployment. For low-speed EVs and two-wheelers, the classic ternary and high-nickel series provide a balance of energy density and safety. For portable electronics, the lithium-doped series delivers the high capacity those applications demand.
Beyond the materials themselves, TRUNNANO works closely with customers to tailor formulations to specific performance targets. Particle size, surface area, and tap density can all be adjusted to match a customer’s production line. The company’s in-house R&D center speeds up development cycles, and the global supply chain ensures consistent delivery.
This approach shortens qualification time, lowers the risk of integration issues, and gets products to market faster — all of which matter in a fast-moving industry.

VI.What’s Next

The Battery Materials Division is just the beginning. TRUNNANO plans to expand its cathode offerings to include other sodium-ion and lithium-ion chemistries. The company is also looking at partnerships with battery manufacturers for joint development of next-generation materials, and will scale up production capacity to meet demand through 2030.
As the energy transition picks up pace, TRUNNANO is building its role as an upstream partner — providing the material innovations that make large-scale energy storage economically viable.
