What is sodium silicate?
Sodium silicate has many products, such as liquid, solid, and powder. Common is liquid, colorless transparent, or sticky with light gray. Physical properties vary with different moduli. Use as soap filler, corrugated adhesive, metal preservatives, water softener, detergent additives, ceramics and refractory raw materials, textile bleaching, dyeing and slurry, mine dressing, waterproof, plugging, wood fire prevention, food corrosion and adhesive, silica gel, silica sol, molecular sieve, white carbon black, etc. It can be melted and turned white from soda ash (or sodium sulfate plus pulverized coal) and quartz sand at high temperatures. It can be obtained by cooling, crushing, dissolution, and concentration. It can also be heated by liquid caustic soda and quartz sand. After the hardening of sodium silicate, the main component is silicon gel and solid, large specific surface area, greatly improves the bonding force, using medium concentration of special adhesive and water mixed solution to have the water glass treatment, improve the water resistance, transportation, storage, and use is very convenient, especially suitable for mechanization, automatic operation. Widely used in metallurgy, electric power, petrochemical, and building materials industry. Compared with the anhydrous powdered sodium silicate by mechanical crushing, the water dissolution speed and purity degree of the sodium silicate prepared by this method are higher than that of the anhydrous powdered sodium silicate. Then, the sodium silicate is mixed into the special adhesive and water mixing solution and constantly mixed with the adhesive in the water to improve its adhesive effect to a greater extent.
Main uses of sodium silicate
Sodium silicate is the most valuable filler in the soap industry. Adding sodium silicate into laundry soap can buffer the loss of laundry soap in water, enhance the washing capacity and prevent the rancidity of soap. Sodium silicate in synthetic detergent to help wash, corrosion, and stabilize foam; can be used as filler for paper making; for making silicon gel and silicone; as a binder, bonding sand and clay. Use of water glass:
Glass coated on the metal surface will form the alkali metal silicate and SiO2 gel film, freeing the metal from external acid, alkali, and other corrosion; Use as a binder to bond glass, ceramics, asbestos, wood, plywood, etc.; For the manufacture of refractory materials, white carbon black, acid-resistant cement; Used as a slurry, dip agent in the textile industry, Used as fixation and media in textile dyeing and embossing, And it is used for silk fabric aggravation; Add water glass to the leather production, Its dispersed colloidal SiO2 is used to produce soft leather; Available to preserve eggs in the food industry, Prevent microorganisms from entering the eggshell space and causing deterioration; In the sugar industry, Water glass can remove the pigment and resin in the sugar liquid.
