What is lithium stearate?
Lithium stearate, also known as lithium octadecate, is a white powdery compound that is stable at room temperature and pressure. Slightly soluble in water and ethanol, water solubility is 0.09g /100ml, and ethanol solubility is 0.04g /100ml. Strong acids decompose into stearic acid and the corresponding lithium salts. Insoluble in ethyl acetate, mineral oil. They form colloids in mineral oil.
Features of lithium stearate

Preparation method of lithium stearate
10g stearic acid was dissolved in 100mL 95% ethanol and titrated with 0.5mol/L lithium hydroxide ethanol solution (if lithium hydroxide is not completely soluble in ethanol, water can be added to make it completely soluble). Phenolphthalein was used as an indicator. When the reaction reached the equivalent point, the precipitated lithium stearate soap was extracted and filtered out. The crude product can be recrystallized with 95% ethanol to obtain a pure product.
Lithium stearate is used as a high-temperature lubricant.
It can be used as multi-purpose grease, equipment working under high temperature, medium speed, and heavy load and lubrication of various rolling parts, dry cellar conveyor belt, vulcanization bed, fan bearing, fan bearing, flat press bearing, printing and dyeing lift bearing, pressure roller bearing, high temperature and high-speed motor bearing, continuous casting machine device, continuous casting furnace conveyor belt roller bearing, support bearing, etc.
Other applications of lithium stearate
Lithium stearate can be used as a polyvinyl chloride heat stabilizer for transparent products. When used with a phthalic acid lipid plasticizer, the product does not have a white mist, and the film has good transparency. Compared with other stearates, lithium stearate is easy to melt in ketones, so it has less influence on embodying operation. Lithium stearate can be a non-toxic substitute for barium soap and lead soap. Lithium stearate can also be used with phosphatidic acid plasticizers. Lithium stearate can also be used as an external lubricant, suitable for nylon, phenolic resin, and hard polyvinyl chloride (maximum dosage 0.6). In addition, lithium stearate can be used in building waterproof, anti-seepage, etc.
