Lithium Stearate Properties:
Lithium stearate is a white powdered compound with the chemical formula LiC18H35O2.
Lithium stearate density: 1.025g /cm3.
Lithium stearate melting point: 220.0-221.5℃.
Stable at room temperature and pressure.
Lithium stearate solubility: slightly soluble in water, and ethanol, the water solubility is 0.09 g/ 100mL, and ethanol solubility is 0.04 g/100ml. Decomposition into stearic acid and corresponding lithium salts in response to strong acid. Insoluble in ethyl acetate and mineral oil. Colloids form in mineral oils.

How is Lithium Stearate made?

Method 1:  

10g stearic acid was dissolved in 100mL 95% ethanol, and titrated with 0.5mol/L lithium hydroxide ethanol solution (if lithium hydroxide could not be completely dissolved in ethanol, water could be added to make it completely dissolved). Phenolphthalein was used as an indicator. After the reaction reached the equivalence point, the precipitated lithium stearate soap was extracted and filtered out.  The crude product can be recrystallized with 95% ethanol to obtain pure product.  

Method 2:  

Sodium hydroxide is dissolved in water to form a solution, to which stearic acid is added, and then fully reacted and heated to more than 100℃. Dissolve lithium chloride in water, cool it to room temperature, and add it to the prepared sodium stearate solution for reaction;  After the reaction is finished, it is released and dehydrated by centrifuge. Using air drying equipment for drying, get the finished product.
