What is iron boride

Iron boride, molecular formula is BFe, molecular weight is 66.656, is a gray orthogonal diamond crystal, it can also be a gray powder insoluble in water. It can be mainly used as a chemical reagent, and can also be used as a catalyst for hydrohydrogenation. There are two main forms of iron boride, some iron boride has magnetic, electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance and extremely high hardness; some iron boride is used as a hardened coating of iron. Iron boride itself has the high hardness of ceramics, as well as the thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity of metals. Iron boride coating has excellent mechanical properties, friction and corrosion resistance.

Boron iron alloy

The iron alloy mainly composed of boron and iron also contains impurities such as aluminum, silicon, carbon, manganese, and copper. Iron boride is a boron additive for iron and steel smelting, cast iron, amorphous alloys and magnetic materials. The physical and chemical properties of iron boride mainly include non-toxic, odorless, non-irritating, good thermal stability and heat resistance, strong ultraviolet shielding effect, good dispersion and weather resistance, it has obvious sterilization against harmful bacteria, Bacteriostatic and antibacterial effect, it can accelerate the degradation rate of plastic products.

Puffing process

Boron-rich compounds can form a mixture of iron boride on the surface of iron through thermochemical reaction. This process is called boronization. There are many ways to form a boride coating, including gas boronizing, molten salt boronizing, and filling boronizing. A typical boride layer is carbon tetraboride (b4c) or crystalline boron, which is sintered in a tetrafluoroboric acid flux to form a coating on the surface of iron. Boron atoms can diffuse into the iron matrix within the range of 1023 to 1373 K. The range of compounds and composition they form depends on the reaction conditions, including temperature and surrounding environment. Bulk iron boride can be formed by simply reacting iron and boron in a high temperature inert gas furnace or microwave.

Boronization, this process can usually be used to improve wear resistance, corrosion resistance, wear resistance and oxidation resistance. It can also be widely used in oil and gas refining, chemical extraction, automotive, agriculture, stamping, textile extrusion, injection molding and other industries. Iron-based coatings have recently received widespread attention in the industry due to their special properties of mechanical, friction and corrosion resistance. Compared with the ceramics or cermets that people have used before, iron-based materials are relatively cheap, and can be economically produced by various thermal methods, and are easy to manufacture and process.

The use of iron boride

1. As a light stabilizer, it is used in sunscreen plastics, including sporting goods, outdoor facilities, fabrics and carpets. It is also a commonly used material for photovoltaic solar power conversion.

2. Used in ink, paint and textile, it can improve its adhesion, anti-aging and scrub resistance.

3. It is used in the paper industry to improve the printability and impermeability.

4. For plastic, rubber and functional fiber products, it can improve the anti-aging ability, anti-pulverization ability, weather resistance and product strength of the product, while maintaining the color gloss of the product and prolonging the service life of the product.

5. There is basically no scattering effect on incident visible light, and it has strong ultraviolet shielding ability and excellent transparency. As a new material, it has been widely used in cosmetics, paints, and paints.
