Description of Air entraining agent

Air-entraining agent refers to the ability to introduce a large number of evenly distributed tiny air bubbles in the concrete mixing process to reduce the bleeding and segregation of the concrete mixture, improve workability, and significantly improve the frost resistance and durability of hardened concrete admixtures.

What is air entraining agent?

Most of the air-entraining agents are anionic surfactants. On the water-air interface, the hydrophobic group is directionally adsorbed toward the air side. The hydrated particles form a hydrophobic adsorption layer and try to be close to the air surface so that a large number of fine air bubbles are generated during the mixing process of the concrete. These air bubbles have directional adsorption layers with the same charge, so they repel each other and can be distributed evenly.

On the other hand, many anionic air-entraining agents have calcium salt precipitation in the cement solution with high calcium content, and they are adsorbed on the bubble film, which can effectively prevent the bubbles from bursting.

Product characteristics of air entraining agent

1. Air entraining agent has the remarkable characteristics of fine, uniform, and lasting air bubbles.

2. Air entraining agent can improve the workability and pumpability of concrete.

3. Inhibits segregation and water secretion.

4. Improves freeze-thaw resistance and durability.

5. Reduce the slump loss.

6. Air entraining agent is suitable for formulating concrete for hydraulic, marine, port, culvert, tunnel, bridge, road, and other projects.

7. Air entraining agent is suitable for various mortars.

Applications of air-entraining agents in concrete

1. Improve the workability of concrete mixtures.

2. Significantly improve the impermeability and frost resistance of concrete.

3. Reduce concrete strength. Generally, when the air content of concrete increases by 1%, its compressive strength will decrease by 4% to 6%, and its flexural strength will decrease by 2% to 3%.

Precautions of air entraining agent

1. Air entraining agent is non-toxic and harmless, biodegradable, but not edible.

2. If it gets into the eyes, it should be rinsed with plenty of water in time.

3. If you cause allergies to part of the human body, you should consult a doctor in time.

FAQs of Foaming Agent

Q: What is lightweight foamed concrete?
Foam concrete, also known as aircrete, is a type of lightweight concrete typically made by mixing water, cement and foam. Sand may also be included to make the mix stronger. The different components added to the mix will determine the strength and durability of the concrete.

Q: Why use foamed concrete?
Foamed concrete is widely used due to its superior properties, such as self-levelling ability, high insulation properties, filling ability, fire-resistant characteristics and low cost compared to other types of lightweight concrete.

Q: How to make foaming agent for concrete?
Please note that making your own foaming agent from scratch requires knowledge of chemical formulations and may not yield the same results as commercial products. It is often recommended to use a commercially available foaming agent that has been tested and optimized for use in concrete.
