Properties of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate
Appearance: Light yellow to colorless viscous liquid
Permeability: 5 seconds (0.1% aqueous solution, 25 )
PH value: 4.0-7.0 (0.1% aqueous solution)

Performance of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate
Easy to dissolve in water, the solution is milky white, not resistant to strong acids, alkalis, heavy metal salts, and reducing agents. It penetrates quickly and evenly, and has good wetting, penetration, emulsification, and foaming properties. The penetration effect is best below 40 , and it is more prone to hydrolysis when exposed to alkali at high temperatures. It is suitable to treat the fabric with a penetrating agent before heating it up below 40 . Penetrant T is not resistant to strong alkalis and cannot be directly added to concentrated alkaline solution. The alkaline solution should be diluted first before adding penetrant T.

Production Method of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate
Dehydrated malic anhydride and 2-ethylhexanol undergo esterification reaction under the catalysis of p-toluenesulfonic acid, and the resulting esterification product is then sulfonated with sodium metabisulfite. The sulfonated product is prepared by blending an appropriate amount of alcohol and distilled water to obtain the finished product. The raw materials used are 2-ethylhexanol, secondary octanol or mixed alcohol, with a consumption of (kg/t) anhydrous malic anhydride (>98%) 107.6 secondary octanol (>80%) 298 sodium metabisulfite 145
Maleic anhydride and secondary octanol undergo esterification reaction under the catalysis of p-toluenesulfonic acid at 120-140 . The esterification product is mixed with sodium chloride sulfite and water, and heated evenly to 110-120 at a pressure of 0.2MPa. The reaction is maintained until the endpoint (sample is added to water, and there is no yellow oily substance floating on the water surface as the endpoint). The reaction is cooled to 80 and left to stand overnight. The lower layer of water and a small amount of turbid sulfonate are discarded to obtain the finished product.

Application of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate
1. Fabric rapid penetrating agent, pesticide emulsifier, surfactant, etc.
2. Used as rapid fabric penetration agent, pesticide emulsifier, detergent, and surfactant in the printing and dyeing industry.

Application of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate

3. As a rapid penetrating agent, it is suitable for the treatment of cotton, linen, viscose and blended products. The treated fabrics can be bleached or dyed directly. without scouring. The fabric after printing and dyeing feels soft and plump. The preparation method of the rapid penetrating agent T aqueous solution is to first add 50 to 100 times of water, leave it overnight, and then stir to dissolve. Or dissolve it with hot water around 90. But its best penetration effect is below 40. It is easy to decompose when exposed to alkali at high temperatures. If there is too much foam during use, defoaming agents such as octanol and tributyl phosphate can be added for defoaming treatment.
4. This product is a highly efficient penetrating agent, used to treat cotton, linen, viscose and their blended products. The treated fabric can be directly bleached or dyed without scouring to improve dyeing defects caused by dead cotton. The fabric after printing and dyeing also feels softer and fuller. Also used as pesticide emulsifier, detergent and surfactant. Can also be used as photosensitive material emulsion.

FAQs of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate

Q:What are the main applications of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate?

A:Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate finds use in multiple applications:Cosmetics: As an emulsifier and wetting agent in creams, lotions, and cleansersPharmaceuticals: For formulating drug delivery systems and improving the solubility of poorly soluble drugs.Industrial Applications: In metalworking fluids to provide corrosion protection and improve lubrication.Paints and Coatings: To stabilize pigment dispersions and improve coating performance.Pesticides: As a spreading agent to enhance the effectiveness of agricultural chemicals.

Q:Is Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate safe for use in personal care products?

A:Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate is generally recognized as safe for use in personal care products when used according to industry standards. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel has reviewed this ingredient and concluded that it is safe for use in rinse-off products at concentrations up to 5% and in leave-on products at concentrations up to 2%. However, individual sensitivity can vary, so patch testing is advised if irritation occurs.

Q:How does Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate perform compared to other surfactants?

A:Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate offers several advantages over other surfactants:Emulsification Efficiency: It provides excellent emulsification of oil-in-water systems, leading to stable emulsions even under harsh conditions.Compatibility: It is compatible with a wide range of other surfactants and ingredients, making it versatile for formulation purposes.Low Irritation Potential: Compared to some other surfactants like sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), it tends to have a lower potential for skin and eye irritation.Environmental Impact: While biodegradability can depend on the specific formulation, sulfosuccinates generally have a favorable environmental profile.

Q:Can Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate be used in eco-friendly formulations?

A:The use of Sodium Diethylhexyl Sulfosuccinate in eco-friendly formulations depends on the overall composition and intended application of the product. While it is not derived from natural sources like some other surfactants, it is often chosen for its ability to create stable, efficient emulsions without requiring high levels of potentially harmful co-surfactants. Manufacturers seeking to produce eco-friendly products may choose this surfactant for its performance benefits and relative safety profile. However, it's important to consider the entire lifecycle of the product, including disposal, to determine its environmental impact accurately.
