Silicon Boride has a molecular weight of 92.95. It is a black crystal with a relative density of 2.47. Its hardness is between diamond and ruby. It can conduct electricity and is insoluble in water. When heated in chlorine and water vapor, its surface can be oxidized. It can be directly oxidized in boiling nitric acid. It remains unchanged in molten potassium hydroxide. It decomposes in hot, concentrated sulfuric acid. Terms for preparation: it can directly heat the mixture of silicon and boron. It is obtained by removing excess silicon with hydrofluoric acid and nitric acid and decomposing silicon tribromide (B3Si) with molten potassium hydroxide. 
Primary applications of silicon Boride
First, it can be used as various standard abrasives and eye film cemented carbide; second, it can also be used as engineering ceramic materials, sandblasting nozzles, blades for manufacturing gas engines, other special-shaped sintered parts, and seals. In addition, it can also be used as an antioxidant for refractory materials.
