What is potassium silicate?
Potassium silicate is colourless or yellowish, translucent to transparent glass, with hygroscopicity and a strong alkaline reaction. It is decomposed in acid and precipitates silicon dioxide. It is slowly soluble in cold water or almost insoluble in water (depending on its composition) and insoluble in ethanol. Potassium silicate is usually used to make welding electrodes, welding electrodes, reducing dyes, and fire retardants. It is also used as a fluorescent screen coating layer and soap filler. Preparation of potassium silicate
Melting method:
Mix silica sand and caustic potash in proportion and add them to the melting furnace.
Heat them with heavy oil or electricity to 1200~1400 ℃.
When a completely molten transparent body is formed, release it from the furnace for cooling and solidification, and then put it into the autoclave.
Apply pressurized steam (0 2MPa).
Let the solution stand and clear, remove impurities, and concentrate the clear solution to obtain a potassium silicate finished product.
 
 
Safety of potassium silicate
It shall be packed in iron drums or plastic drums with a net weight of 300kg each. It shall be stored in general warehouses or tanks. The air temperature during storage and transportation shall not exceed - 5 . The containers must be sealed and protected from rain. They shall not be stored and transported together with acid articles. In case of fire, water and various fire extinguishers can be used to put out the fire.
