What is Molybdenum Silicide?
Molybdenum disilicate is a new metal ceramic material based on molybdenum silicate. Its main components are molybdenum and silicon. Molybdenum is a high-temperature material, without radiation, and corrosive. Molybdenum disilicate has similar characteristics to metals and ceramics because the radius of the two atoms is not very different, and the electronegativity is relatively close. With a melting point of up to 2030℃, it is conducive to forming a silica passivation layer on the surface to prevent further oxidation at high temperatures. Its appearance is gray metallic, derived from its square α -shaped crystal structure, which has a hexagonal shape but an unstable Β modified crystal structure. Insoluble in most acids but soluble in nitric acid and hydrofluoric acid. Si and Mo atoms form the most tightly packed basic structure in two dimensions, in which Si atoms coordinate the presence of Mo atoms. If this basic structure is seen as a layer, the stack of layers can represent the structure of MoSi2. That is, in the midpoint of the line between two Si atoms in the adjacent lower layer.
Main uses of Molybdenum Silicide
Molybdenum disilicon is used in high-temperature antioxidant coating materials, electric heating elements, integrated electrode film, structural materials, composite reinforced materials, wear-resistant materials, structural ceramic connection materials, and other fields. In the energy and chemical industry, it can be used for high-temperature heat exchangers, atomic reactor device, gas burner, high-temperature thermocouple and their protective tubes, smelting container crucible (for smelting sodium, lithium, lead, bismuth, tin, and other metals); in the microelectronics industry, molybdenum, Ti5Si3, WSi2, Tai 2, are important candidates for large-scale IC gate and interfirm; in the aerospace industry, as a high-temperature antioxidant coating, has been widely and deeply studied and applied. Especially materials such as turbine engine components, such as blades, impellers, burners, tail nozzle, and sealing devices; in the automotive industry, turbocharger rotors, valve bodies, spark plugs, and engine parts for automotive turbine engines.
