Introduction to Titanium Diboride Powder
Titanium Diboride Powder or TiB2 is gray or gray-black powder with a hexagonal crystal structure. The melting point is 2900 ℃; Hardness (HV) is 34GPaI and the density is 4.52. It has features of wear resistance, acid and alkali resistance, strong electrical and thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient, excellent chemical stability, and heat resistance. 
 
Physicochemical Properties of Titanium Diboride Powder
Titanium diboride has an oxidation resistance of 1000℃ in air and is stable in HCI and HF acids, but reacts with H2SO4 and HNO3. It is easily eroded by alkali.
The hot pressing of TiB2 (with the addition of a small amount of metal or carbide sintering AIDS) is carried out at 1800-1900 °C, reaching close to theoretical density. For press-free sintering, more sintering additives and sintering temperatures in excess of 2000°C would be required.
TiB2 is the most stable of several titanium-boron compounds. It is a hexagon quasi-metallic compound with a C32 structure and covalent bond. The structural parameters of the complete crystal are 0.3028nm for A and 0.3228nm for C. In the crystal structure, the boron and titanium atomic planes appear alternately to form a two-dimensional network structure, in which B is covalently bonded with three other B's, and the extra electron forms a large π bond. The layer structure of boron atoms is similar to graphite and the outer electrons of Ti determine the good electrical conductivity and metallic luster of TiB2, while the Ti-B bond between boron and titanium atoms determines the high hardness and brittleness of this material. TiB2 is resistant to sintering and is usually densified by hot pressing or hot isostatic pressing. High density can be achieved by press-free sintering of TiB2, but liquid forming additives such as iron, chromium, and carbon are required.

Preparation Methods of Titanium Diboride Powder
The boron carbide method is also known as the carbothermic reduction method: 2TiO2+B4C+3=2TiB2+4CO
Using TiCl4 and BCl3 as raw materials by vapor deposition: TiCl4+2BCl3+5H2=TiB2+10HCl
can be prepared in the presence of H2 at 800 ~ 1000℃ 
 
Applications of Titanium Diboride Powder
1. Titanium diboride powder can be used for rocket nozzle, electrical contact, and high temperature electrode materials, and can also be used as abrasive. 
2. Used for conductive ceramics, tool ceramics, conductive, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant coating.
3. Used for conductive composite materials. Making conductive boron nitride (evaporation boat) with titanium diboride (TiB2) and boron nitride (BN) is the main component of vacuum aluminum plating equipment.
4. Used for ceramic cutting tools and their components. Manufacturing titanium diboride ceramics for drawing die, extrusion die, sandblasting nozzle, sealing elements, cutting tools, etc.
5. Used as composite ceramic material. As an important component of multiple composite materials, titanium diboride can be used with TiC, TiN, SiC and other materials to form cutting tool composite materials.
6. Can also be used as a component to make armor protection materials, for it is the best material for various and high temperature parts, and functional devices.
7. Cathode material for aluminum electrolysis. As the cathode material of the aluminum electrolytic cell, the power consumption of electrolytic aluminum is reduced due to the good wettability of TiB2 and aluminum liquid metal, and the life of the electrolytic cell is prolonged.
8. Also can be made into PTC heating materials and flexible PTC materials, is Al, Fe, Cu, and other metal materials strengthening agent. 
9. Used as rocket nozzle, electrical contact, electrode material, etc
