What is Tin disulfide?
Tin disulfide is an inorganic compound with a chemical formula of SnS2. It is a yellow hexagonal flake with a CdI2 crystal structure. It is hardly soluble in water, but it is soluble in aqua regia and hot alkaline solution, and also soluble in sodium sulfide Solution, often used as golden paint.
Tin disulfide is soluble in aqua regia and hot alkali solution, and can undergo coordination reaction with concentrated hydrochloric acid, but it is insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acid, insoluble in water, and nitric acid. It can also react with ammonium sulfide to dissolve.
How to prepare tin disulfide?
Tin disulfide can be obtained by directly combining tin and sulfur in the presence of iodine. The reaction requires heating:
Sn + 2 S —→ SnS2
Another method is to pass hydrogen sulfide into the tin (IV) salt or tin (IV) salt solution and precipitate it.
Electrochemical behavior of multi-walled carbon nanotubes confined tin disulfide as negative electrode of lithium ion battery
The direct current arc plasma method was used to prepare multi-walled carbon nanotube-confined metal tin nanostructures (Sn@MWCNT) as a precursor in a methane atmosphere, and then SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructures were obtained through the sulfurization reaction. The results of physical characterization of the material such as Raman, X-ray diffraction (XRD), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that the length of multi-walled carbon nanotubes was about 400nm, the surface carbon layer was well crystallized, and the thickness of the carbon layer was about 10 nm. Lithium-ion batteries using Sn S2@MWCNT nanostructures as anode materials show relatively good electrochemical performance. The first charge-discharge Coulomb efficiency is 71%, and after 50 cycles, the capacity still maintains 703 mAh?g-1. The high-capacity characteristics of SnS_2@MWCNT nanostructured electrodes stem from the fact that a variety of active materials provide the capacity together, and the reaction platform of each material is different.
Study on electrochemical performance of tin disulfide/single-walled carbon nanotube composite material used as anode material for lithium-ion battery
A new composite material of SnS2 and single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was prepared by a simple solvothermal method. It is found to have good electrochemical performance after being applied to the negative electrode material of lithium ion battery. At a high current density of 1 A/g, after 100 cycles, it still maintains a reversible specific capacity of 510 mAh/g. For comparison, we used the same method to synthesize a single SnS2 material and conduct electrochemical tests on it. The results show that although the initial specific capacity of the SnS2 material is relatively high, the cycle performance is poor, and it decays quickly after less than 20 cycles. The superior performance of this composite material in lithium-ion batteries is believed to be the result of the synergy between the two components of SnS2 and SWCNTs.
