What is Calcium Stearate?
Calcium stearate, molecular formula (C17H35COO)2Ca. White tasteless fine powder, absorbent in air. Insoluble in water, slightly soluble in hot ethanol, ether. Reacts with strong acid to form stearic acid and corresponding calcium salt. Low toxicity.

What is the Use of Calcium Stearate?
Unlike traditional soaps and potassium soaps, calcium stearate is a waxy substance with low solubility in water. It is also easy and inexpensive to produce and has low toxicity.

Calcium stearate is used as a flow agent and surface modifier in some confectionery.
It's a water-repellent fabric.
Lubricants in pencils and crayons.
The utility model relates to a lubricant in the production of dry Rafah by wire.
The concrete industry uses calcium stearate to control weathering of cement products used to produce concrete masonry units (i.e., pavers and blocks), as well as waterproofing.
In paper production, calcium stearate is used as a lubricant to provide good gloss and prevent dust and folding cracks in paper and board manufacturing.
In plastics, it can be used as an acid scavenger or neutralizer (at concentrations up to 1000 PPM), lubricant, and mold release agent. It can be used in plastic colorant concentrate to improve pigment wettability. In rigid PVC, it speeds fusion, improves fluidity, and reduces die expansion.
Applications in the personal care and pharmaceutical industries include tablet release agents, anti-adhesive agents, and gelling agents.
Calcium stearate is an ingredient in some types of defoaming agents.
Anti-caking agent.

Calcium Stearate in Food
It is a synthetic ingredient used as an anti-caking agent, a release agent, a lubricant, a binder, an emulsifier, and a thickener in foods. European Food Additive Number E470a.  It can also be used in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, plastics, and other applications.

Calcium Stearate Source
The main feedstock - stearic acid is a naturally occurring saturated fatty acid found in animal fats and vegetable oils in the form of glycerides.

Common animal sources: suet, tallow, and lard.
Common plant sources: cocoa butter, soybean oil, palm oil, coconut oil, olive oil, and corn oil.
Most of the stearic acid used to produce calcium stearate comes from vegetable oils, so it can be called vegetable calcium stearate.
