The preparation method of aluminum iboride
Using amorphous boron powder and aluminum powder as raw materials, AlB12 powder was prepared by powder metallurgy method. X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope were used to determine the phase composition, relative content, and microscopic morphology of the product, respectively. The results show that the buried powder Al content determines the types of impurities in the product. The buried powder Al content is 30% (mass content, the same below), and elemental Al exists in the product; the buried powder Al content is 10%, and the impurities are mainly Al2O3; When the Al content of the buried powder is 20%, the impurity content is the least, which is mainly oxy-magnesium-aluminum phase. The optimum process parameters for synthesis are: synthesis temperature 1400℃, constant temperature time 60min, Al content of 17.2%, and Al content of buried powder 20%.
The applications of Aluminum Boride
The structure of aluminum boride is similar to that of intermetallic compounds, and its structure mainly depends on the crystal structure of aluminum metal and boron rather than their valence relationship. Aluminum borides are AlB2, AlB4 and AlB12. The diboride AlB2 can be generated by the reaction of two elements above 600℃. It is a layered structure, Al atoms are directly overlapped (A, A mode), and B atoms are filled in the triangular column formed by the direct overlap of Al atoms, that is, the boron layer is between the two aluminum layers. [3] The structure of the boron layer is similar to that of graphite. The boron atoms are connected into a hexagonal network. The distance between each B atom and the other three B atoms is 0.173 nm. There are six Al atoms connected to the B, which occupy the vertices of the triangular prism superior. AlB2 can be dissolved in dilute hydrochloric acid to produce a reducing solution, which may contain HB(OH)+3. AlB2 is insoluble in dilute sulfuric acid, but soluble in nitric acid. AlB2 decomposes to form AlB12 above 920°C.
