Research Results of Tungsten Selenide in Photonic Technology

The team found that tungsten selenide is made up of various "co-oscillations" that are sensitive to the absorption of light particles called photons. They chose two of WSe2's oscillations, called A and D excitons, and found that when WSe2 was irradiated with two excitation pulses (1 and 2), one of the pulses (1) was switched to an A exciton, and their sum frequency (1+ 2) to A D exciton, with A signal 20 times that of the single resonant mode. In addition, the intensity of photons produced using the SFG method is one order of magnitude higher than SHG.

These results show the great potential of advanced photonic devices. The double resonance SFG method not only provides new scientific  for nonlinear spectral and microscopic methods, but also provides new scientific for nonlinear optics and techniques using two-dimensional semiconductors. These studies have the potential to bring photonics to a new level of application, such as medical care, with better optical imaging instruments and cheaper diagnostic methods.
