Silica aerogel is a kind of gel material with dispersed medium as gas. It is a nanoporous fixed material with network structure composed of colloidal particles or polymer molecules, and its solid phase and pore structure are nanometer scale. Because of its unique structure and properties, it shows good application value in many fields.

Properties and applications of silicon aerogels

The special network structure makes silicon aerogel show unique properties in thermal, optical, electrical, mechanical, acoustic and other aspects, and has a broad application prospect.

Ⅰ Transparent insulation material
SO₂ aerogels can be used as transparent heat insulation materials in solar collectors and energy saving materials for solar houses. They can also be used as insulation materials for cryogenic systems such as refrigerators, thus avoiding the danger of destroying the ozone layer by releasing a large amount of freon gas when refrigerators are used as refrigerators.

At the same time, because it is the lightest material in the world (under the supercritical conditions, the density is as low as 3kg·m ⅓, thus creating the world Guinness record. The average density of silica aerogel prepared in laboratory under atmospheric pressure is 134.3kg·m ⅓), and it becomes the ideal thermal insulation layer on the space vehicle. The material used in the heat insulation layer of the British "Jaguar" fighter is the material used by the US NASA. In the design of the "Mars Rover", silicon aerogel is also used as an insulation layer to withstand the ultra-low temperature below -100 of Mars night.

In the SO₂ aerogel, other metal was added to make the insulation film. Polyimide was chosen as the framework material, and the aluminum film was coated with porous SO₂ aerogels to form an insulation film. When the film was stacked to 10 layers, the heat insulation effect could be increased 5 times.

Ⅱ Application in Electricity
The dielectric constant of silicon aerogel is very low in the solid material and is continuously adjustable in 1-2 range. Therefore, in the very large scale integrated circuit (UISI), with the integration of devices increasing, it is expected to be applied to the substrate materials of large scale integrated circuits (UISI). Researchers have studied several low dielectric materials currently under development, of which SD2 aerogels are well suited for the development of ULSI.

Ⅲ Acoustic impedance coupling material
The longitudinal acoustic propagation rate of SD2 aerogel is 100m/s, which is the lowest in solid materials, and its acoustic impedance varies greatly with density. Therefore, it is an ideal acoustic impedance coupling material. It can be used to decorate floor materials and acoustic impedance materials on mechanical devices such as transportation and ultrasound. It is also an acoustic delay and high temperature sound insulation material, so transparent aerogels can be used for solar insulation and insulation windows.

Ⅳ Application of mechanical properties
Silicon aerogels have low tensile, compressive and elastic coefficients. They can improve their mechanical properties by aging and increase their shear coefficients by 23 times. Therefore, they can be used as kinetic energy absorbing materials for super dampers. When vibration compresses, a lot of energy can be absorbed. Low vibration impedance materials composed of silicon aerogel and carbon aerogel can capture frozen minerals at vibration pressure of 100 atmospheres.
