Application of Molybdenum Telluride as Catalyst

Currently, more than 99 percent of hydrogen peroxide is produced by energy-intensive, polluting sources. In recent years, the production of hydrogen peroxide by reducing oxygen through a two-electron path has received considerable attention, but the catalysts available for this path are either costly (noble metal catalysts) or only suitable for alkaline conditions (H2O2 is unstable under alkaline conditions).In this context, In collaboration with Professor Zhou Wu of The Chinese Academy of Sciences and Professor Li Yafe of Nanjing Normal University, Professor Li Yanguang of Soochow University discovered that molybdenum telluride (MoTe2) nano-sheets stripped in liquid phase could be used as efficient catalysts in acidic electrolytes, and revealed the key to their high activity and selectivity. The results show that the activity and selectivity of molybdenum telluride nanocrystals do not decrease after 5000 cycles. After aging, there was only a slight active attenuation but no obvious selective attenuation. These experiments all proved that the molybdenum telluride nanocrystals had good catalytic stability.


Application of Molybdenum Telluride in Communication

Thin films of molybdenum telluride can be "attached" directly to standard silicon wafers used to produce and detect infra-red light at substrates compatible wavelengths. Our goal of ubiquitous electro-optical conversions embedded in our ubiquitous silicon-based integrated circuits and high-speed optical interconnections may be closer to reality. Someone has developed a way to use complex materials to bridge the gap and overcome the natural barriers in silicon, light emission and light wavelength. The underlying material problem is that although silicon has many wonderful electrical and mechanical properties, it is not compatible with optical requirements. Most semiconductor materials emit light in the visible range, and silicon absorbs light at these wavelengths. They developed a silicon waveguide integrated light source and photodetector based on a P-N junction of molybdenum telluride (MoTe2), a group of ultra-thin semiconductors called two-dimensional transition metal disulfide compounds. Molybdenum telluride emits light in the infrared and is therefore not absorbed by silicon. Therefore, it can be used for on-chip communication.

Medical Applications of Molybdenum Telluride

In recent years, nanomaterials have become the focus of researchers due to their own characteristics. In the field of biomedicine, researchers have designed and prepared a series of multifunctional nanomaterials that successfully combine the functions of tumor targeting, diagnosis and treatment into a single nanomaterial. In this study, the functionalized molybdenum telluride nanocrystals targeted and loaded with chemotherapeutic drugs were successfully used for tumor diagnosis and treatment.

Molybdenum telluride nanocrystals have high photothermal conversion efficiency and good cell killing ability under near infrared irradiation. Molybdenum telluride nanocrystals showed high accumulation and strong tumor cauterization in tumors .Importantly, molybdenum telluride nanocrystals can be degraded by near-infrared light stimulation. The results of in vitro and in vivo experiments showed that the nano agent had tumor targeting function, high photothermal conversion efficiency, and successfully realized accurate tumor diagnosis and combined photothermal/chemotherapy treatment. At the same time, the body is easy to degrade, can be quickly discharged from the body, to avoid the body retention and toxic side effects.
