According to media reports, Tesla is facing a new class action lawsuit, mainly because the paint of Model 3 vehicles was severely damaged in cold weather. These car owners demanded compensation from Tesla and certain financial compensation.
According to car owners who launched a class-action lawsuit, the paint on their Model 3 vehicles degraded alarmingly when driving on roads sprinkled with salt, sand, and snow in winter.

Tesla has previously acknowledged this problem and provided free "all-weather protection kits" to car owners, but this measure cannot completely prevent paint aging and damage.

The problem of paint decay is particularly serious in the Canadian province of Quebec, where many Model 3 owners live. Among them, car owner Francois Belleros filed a class action lawsuit against Tesla because Tesla refused to repair the paint problem.

According to the lawsuit, in February last year, after a winter, Byleroth noticed accelerated aging of the paint on the bottom of the Model 3 he purchased that was less than a year old. He contacted Tesla about the issue, but Tesla refused to address such issues under warranty.

At the same time, some car owners went to a local repair shop to repair the rusted car bottom and damaged paint. As a result, the asking price reached US$4,700 (approximately RMB 33,000). After several negotiations with Tesla, they decided to sue Tesla jointly and began to look for more car owners who had suffered such damage to join the lawsuit.

In this class-action lawsuit, the owners are asking Tesla to compensate for the depreciation of the vehicles caused by the paint problem, which is equivalent to their out-of-pocket expenses. At the same time, Tesla is required to pay an additional $500 to each affected car owner as compensation.

The main role of zinc sulfide in automotive paints is as a preservative, which can effectively inhibit corrosion on metal surfaces. In addition, zinc sulfide can also improve the adhesion and weather resistance of coatings, making the coating more durable and beautiful. Therefore, zinc sulfide is widely used in various coatings, including automotive paints.

The role of zinc sulfide in automobile paint coatings

Zinc sulfide is an important inorganic compound with a wide range of applications. In addition to its application in the coatings industry, zinc sulfide also plays an important role in many fields, such as rubber, plastics, cosmetics, electronics, and agriculture. For example, in the rubber industry, zinc sulfide can be used as a rubber additive to promote the vulcanization reaction of rubber, improve rubber strength and wear resistance, and enhance rubber products' weather and oil resistance. In the plastics industry, zinc sulfide can be used as a plasticizer and stabilizer to improve plastic products' softness and weather resistance. In cosmetics, zinc sulfide can be used as a sunscreen agent to block ultraviolet rays and effectively protect the skin from damage. In the electronics industry, zinc sulfide can be used as a semiconductor material to manufacture optoelectronic devices and solar cells. In agriculture, zinc sulfide can be used as a pesticide and fertilizer to promote plant growth and control pests and diseases.
