Aluminum nitride, it’s a covalent bond compound, the chemical formula is AlN, it is an atomic crystal. The Application of Aluminum Nitride

Applied to luminescent materials
Aluminum nitride (AlN) has a maximum direct band gap of 6.2 eV, which has a higher photoelectric conversion efficiency than indirect band gap semiconductors. As an important blue and ultraviolet light-emitting material, AlN is used in ultraviolet/deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes, ultraviolet laser diodes, and ultraviolet detectors.

 

Used in ceramics and refractory materials
Aluminum nitride can be used for the sintering of structural ceramics, and the prepared aluminum nitride ceramics have not only good mechanical properties, but also higher flexural strength than Al2O3 and BeO ceramics, high hardness, and high temperature and corrosion resistance. Utilizing the heat resistance and corrosion resistance of AlN ceramics, it can be used to make high temperature and corrosion resistant parts such as crucibles and Al evaporating dishes.

For composite materials
Epoxy/AlN composite materials as packaging materials require good thermal and heat dissipation capabilities, and this requirement is becoming more and more stringent. As a polymer material with good chemical properties and mechanical stability, epoxy resin is easy to cure, has low shrinkage, but has low thermal conductivity. By adding AlN nanoparticles with excellent thermal conductivity to the epoxy resin, the thermal conductivity and strength of the material can be effectively improved.

Piezoelectric device application
Aluminum nitride has high resistivity, high thermal conductivity (8-10 times that of Al2O3), and low expansion coefficient similar to silicon. It is an ideal material for high-temperature and high-power electronic devices.

Applied to substrate material
AlN crystal is an ideal substrate for GaN, AlGaN and AlN epitaxial materials. Compared with sapphire or SiC substrates, AlN and GaN have higher thermal matching and chemical compatibility, and the stress between the substrate and the epitaxial layer is smaller.
