Description of Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C

Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C

Ascorbic Acid is a white or slightly yellow crystal or powder, a little acid with an m.p. of 190℃-192℃. It is easily soluble in water, a little soluble in alcohol, and uneasily soluble in Ether, chloroform, and other organic solvent. In a solid state, it is stable in air. Its water solution is easily mutated when it meets with air.

Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C used in concrete

Ascorbic acid (vitamin C), as a building material admixture, has been used in expressways, high-rise buildings, bridges, culverts, and other construction projects, can be compounded, and is an excellent water reducer additive.

Vitamin C contains a large number of strong polar functional groups, carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, which provide dispersion and flow properties to cement particles through adsorption, dispersion, wetting, and other surface activity, and reducing the friction resistance between cement particles, reduce the free energy of the interface between cement particles and water to increase the workability of fresh concrete.

At the same time, polycarboxylic acids are adsorbed on the surface of cement particles, and carboxylate ions make cement particles carry a negative charge, resulting in electrostatic repulsion between cement particles and dispersion of cement particles, resulting in inhibition of the condensation tendency of cement paste. Increase the contact area between cement particles and water to fully hydrate cement.

In the process of diffusing cement particles, the free water surrounded by condensates is released, which improves the workability and reduces the amount of mixing water.

Precautions of Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C

1. This product is non-toxic and harmless, biodegradable, but not edible;

2. If it gets into the eyes, it should be rinsed with plenty of water in time;

3. If you cause allergies to part of the human body, you should consult a doctor in time.

FAQs of Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C
Q: What symptoms can vitamin C deficiency cause?
A: Vitamin C deficiency is known as scurvy, a serious disease that has historically plagued sailors on long sea voyages. Typical symptoms include bleeding gums, loose teeth, joint pain, slow-healing wounds, and bleeding spots or petechiae under the skin. If left untreated, scurvy can lead to more serious problems such as anemia, weakness and even death. Fortunately, by consuming enough fruits and vegetables in the daily diet, modern people rarely suffer from this disease.

Q: What foods are rich in vitamin C?
A: Many natural foods are good sources of Vitamin C. Citrus fruits such as oranges, lemons and grapefruits contain high levels of Vitamin C. Other fruits such as strawberries, kiwi, pineapple and mango are also rich in Vitamin C. Apart from fruits, many vegetables are also good choices, such as bell peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, tomatoes and potatoes. In order to maintain their nutritional value, it is recommended to consume these foods fresh as some of the vitamin C may be lost during the cooking process.

Q: Are vitamin C supplements necessary?
A: For most people, they can get enough vitamin C through a balanced diet, so additional supplements are usually not necessary. However, in some cases, such as those with irregular diets or special needs (e.g., pregnant women, smokers, the elderly, or people with certain chronic diseases), it may be necessary to consider using vitamin C supplements. However, it is worth noting that excessive intake of vitamin C may lead to side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, and other gastrointestinal discomforts. Therefore, it is best to consult a doctor or nutritional expert before deciding to use any supplement.

Q: What is the role of vitamin C in colds and flu?
A: Although the results of studies on vitamin C for the prevention or treatment of the common cold have been inconsistent, there is some evidence that long-term vitamin C supplementation may slightly reduce the frequency and duration of colds. Particularly in those exposed to extreme physical stress (e.g., marathon runners), vitamin C seems to work better for this effect. However, for the general population, starting vitamin C supplementation once cold symptoms are already present does not significantly improve the condition or shorten the duration of the illness. Therefore, while vitamin C is important for maintaining overall health, it is not a panacea for preventing or treating colds.
