Chemica Properties of Water-based Stearamide Emulsion
This product is white or light yellow faded powder. After recrystallization in ethanol, it becomes colorless leaf-like crystals. Soluble in hot ethanol, chloroform, ether, insoluble in cold ethanol, insoluble in water. The relative density is 0.96, the melting point is 108.5~1Chemicalbook09℃, and the boiling point is 250℃ (1599.86Pa). The lubricity is lower than grease and the durability is shorter. Thermal stability is poor and there is initial coloration. Combining with a small amount of higher alcohols (C16~18) can overcome the above shortcomings.

Usage Method of Water-based Stearamide Emulsion

1. For paper coating and thermal paper sensitizer, the recommended addition amount is 3.0~6.0%;
2. Coating treatment for inks, coatings, textiles, and leather to improve slipperiness, wear resistance, and anti-adhesion properties. The recommended addition amount is 3.0~6.0%.

Applications of Water-based Stearamide Emulsion

  1. This product is used as a lubricant and release agent for plastic processing such as polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene, urea-formaldehyde resin, etc. It has excellent external lubrication and release properties. It also has good transparency and electrical insulation. When used in rigid transparent extrusion molding, the general dosage is 0.3 to 0.8 parts. However, the lubricity of this product is not as good as stearic acid. It has short lasting effect, poor thermal stability and initial coloration. Combining with a small amount of higher alcohol can overcome the above shortcomings. If too much is used in the resin, it will easily precipitate to the surface of the product, affecting the printability and transparency. This product can also be used as a slip agent for polyolefins and an anti-adhesive agent for films. It can also be used as an internal release agent and lubricant for natural rubber and synthetic rubber to improve the processability of rubber. Improve the dispersion effect of pigments and other additives, giving products good gloss. Used as an emulsifier for oil-based drilling fluids and a lubricant for metal wire drawing.

  2. Commercially available stearamide usually contains palmitamide, which is non-hygroscopic and has good slipperiness. It can stabilize emulsions such as paraffin wax, improve the dispersion effect of pigments and dyes, and has slipperiness and release properties. Therefore, it can be used as surfactant, fiber oil agent, release agent, lubricant for vinyl chloride and urea-formaldehyde resin, rubber compounding agent, pigment ink and color crayon compounding agent, etc.

  3. Used as slip agent and release agent for PVC, polyolefin, polystyrene and other plastics

  4. Used as a lubricant and release agent for polyvinyl chloride, polystyrene and other plastics, with excellent external lubrication and release performance. It can also be used as an anti-adhesive agent for polyolefin films, usually used in conjunction with oleic acid amide and erucic acid amide. Compared with the commonly used inorganic anti-blocking agent (silica), it has the characteristics of not affecting the transparency of the product. It can be used as an internal release agent and lubricant for synthetic rubber or natural rubber to improve the processing agent of the rubber compound, giving the product a good gloss.

FAQ

Q1
What should we pay attention to during the preparation of aqueous stearamide?
Answer: Since stearamide is insoluble in water, emulsifiers and dispersants need to be added when preparing aqueous stearamide emulsion. In the existing preparation process, high-speed stirring and grinding may be required under heating conditions, which increases the complexity and cost of the production process.

Q2
How dispersible is water-based stearamide?
Answer: The existing water-based stearamide emulsion has the problem of poor dispersion effect and easy precipitation. After being left for a long time, flocculation and stratification may occur. Therefore, improving the preparation process to improve its dispersion is an important direction of research.

Q3
How to store aqueous stearamide?
Answer: Water-based stearamide should be stored in a closed container in a cool and ventilated place. The recommended storage temperature is 5~25℃. It should not be stacked together with strong acids, alkaline compounds and corrosive items to avoid affecting its stability.

Q4
What are the applications of water-based stearamide in the plastics industry?
Answer: Water-based stearamide can be used as a slip agent and release agent for polyolefin, PVC and other plastics, and has excellent external lubrication and release properties. It also acts as a plastic antistatic agent and foaming control agent.

Q5
What are the applications of water-based stearamide in the rubber industry?
Answer: In the rubber industry, water-based stearamide can be used as a lubricant, release agent and dispersant to improve the processability of the rubber and improve the dispersion effect of pigments and fillers.

Q6
How toxic is aqueous stearamide?
Answer: Water-based stearamide is a non-toxic product and harmless to the human body, so there is no need to worry about its toxicity during use.
