What is concrete superplasticizer?

Polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer, also known as concrete water reducer, is a new generation of polycarboxylate superplasticizer made of polyoxyethylene ether macromonomer, unsaturated acid, and sulfonic acid group monomer by radical polymerization. The application of Polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer to concrete has high water reduction and low slump loss performance and can be widely used in pumped concrete, superfluid self-compacting, high-strength, high-performance concrete, and commercial concrete.

 

Technical principle of superplasticizer admixture

Polycarboxylate ether superplasticizer has a comb-shaped structure, with longer polyoxyethylene chains and high-density sulfonic acid groups in the molecule, which makes it have greater steric hindrance and electrostatic repulsion, providing cement with greater dispersion and higher water reduction.

 

Features of Superplasticizer Admixtures

(1) Superplasticizer admixture has great dispersibility and an extremely high water reduction rate (water reduction rate can reach more than 35%), which provides a guarantee for the preparation of high-grade concrete.

(2) Polycarboxylate superplasticizer is an important concrete admixture; Superplasticizer admixture can effectively reduce the viscosity of concrete, have good cohesion, moderate air content, and be suitable for pumping;

(3) Water-reducing admixtures can make concrete with high strength at all ages, good volume stability, outstanding impermeability, freeze-thaw resistance, corrosion resistance, and carbonization resistance;

(4) Superplasticizer admixtures have wide adaptability to Portland cement, ordinary Portland cement, slag silicate, fly ash cement, pozzolan cement, and various admixtures.

 

Superplasticizer dosage in concrete

The usual dosage is 0.5%-1.0% (calculated by the total amount of cementitious materials), and the optimum dosage should be determined by experiments according to the engineering materials and characteristics;

The water-reducing agent can be dissolved in water or added to the concrete mixer alone;

It can be used in combination with high plasticity polycarboxylate water reducer, lignosulfonate water reducer, and various retarders.
