Description
Bismuth Powder Bismuth Metal Powder Properties

About Bismuth powder:

Bismuth is a freshly produced silvery, crystalline, brittle metal, often presenting a pinkish tinge in the air. The bismuth element is the most diamagnetic, and its thermal conductivity is lower than any metal except mercury. It has a high electrical resistance and the highest Hall coefficient.

Bismuth powder is a kind of spherical metal nanoparticle with colors from dark grey to black according to different particle sizes, and there are no mixed colors or obvious agglomeration.

It has a high electrical resistance and the highest Hall effect of any metal (the greatest increase in electrical resistance when placed in a magnetic field). Bismuth is stable to oxygen and water but dissolves in concentrated nitric air. All bismuth salts form insoluble compounds when put into water.

The most important ores of bismuth are bismuth and bismite. Bismuth occurs naturally as the metal itself and is found as crystals in the sulfides ores of nickel, cobalt, silver, and tin. Bismuth is mainly produced as a by-product of lead and copper smelting, especially in the USA. The chief areas where it is mined are Bolivia, Peru', Japan, Mexico, and Canada, but only to the extent of 3.000 tonnes per year. There is no reliable estimate of how much bismuth is available to be mined, but it seems unlikely there will ever be a shortage of this metal.

How is Bismuth powder produced?

It is best to use freshly prepared α-Bi2O3 to produce bismuth powder by reducing it with a molecular and atomic hydrogen mixture at 270°C. A reduction reaction of α-Bi2 O 3→Bi has occurred without any intermediate phase forming.

Such processes can also produce bismuth powder as the mechanical comminution of bulk bismuth, electrolysis of nitrate and sulfate solutions at high current densities, electrolysis of BiCl3 in methyl alcohol and glacial acetic acid, electrolysis of BiBr3 in molten A1Cl3, reduction of aqueous solutions of bismuth salts with various agents, and cathodic reduction of bismuth oxide.

Bismuth powder Uses:

Bismuth Powder for use in the preparation of pressed and bonded sputtering targets and in Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) and Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) processes including Thermal and Electron Beam (E-Beam) Evaporation, Low-Temperature Organic Evaporation, Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD), Metallic-Organic and Chemical Vapor Deposition (MOCVD). Powders are also useful in any application where high surface areas are desired, such as water treatment, fuel cell, and solar applications.

Bismuth powder manufactures low-melting solders, fusible alloys, low-toxicity bird shots, and fishing sinkers. Certain bismuth compounds are also manufactured and used as pharmaceuticals. The industry uses bismuth compounds as catalysts in manufacturing acrylonitrile, the starting material for synthetic fibers and rubbers.

Bismuth powder can be used as a lubricant additive: when 0.1 to 0.3% of Bi nanoparticles grease in the friction process, the friction surface will form a self-lubricating, self-laminating mask to protect the machine, which will significantly improve the grease performance.

Bismuth powder can be used in the metallurgical industry: it can be used as an additive during the production of cast iron, steel, and aluminum alloy, which can improve the cutting performance of the alloy.

Bismuth powder can be used as magnetic material: bismuth has a smaller thermal neutron absorption cross-section, lower melting point, and higher boiling point, which enable it to be the heat transfer medium used in a nuclear reactor.

Prospect Market of Bismuth Powder :

First, the use of bismuth powder in the electronics industry is growing. As an important raw material of electronic paste and solder, bismuth powder has become increasingly prominent in the electronics industry. With the rapid development of the electronics industry and the continuous innovation of electronic information technology, the demand for bismuth powder in the electronics industry will continue to grow.

Secondly, applying bismuth powder in the field of superalloy also has broad prospects. Bismuth is widely used to prepare superalloys because of its excellent high-temperature properties and corrosion resistance. With the continuous development of aerospace, energy, and other fields, the demand for superalloy materials will also increase, driving the market demand for bismuth powder.

In addition, the application of bismuth powder in catalyst preparation, optical coating, medical treatment, and other fields has also shown a good development trend. With the continual technological advancement and ever-growing array of applications, the demand for bismuth powder in these fields will continue to grow.

At the same time, the state's support for environmental protection and new energy will also bring new development opportunities for the bismuth powder industry. With the rapid development of new energy batteries, solar cells, and other industries, the demand for high-performance, high-stability battery materials continues to increase; bismuth powder as an excellent battery material will also usher in new development opportunities.

Storage Condition of Bismuth Powder:

The damp reunion will affect Bismuth powder dispersion performance and using effects; therefore, Bismuth powder should be sealed in vacuum packing and stored in a cool and dry room. The Bismuth Bi powder can not be exposed to air. In addition, the Bismuth powder should be avoided under stress.

Packing & Shipping of Bismuth powder:

We have many kinds of packing, depending on the Bismuth powder quantity.
