What is cerium oxide CeO2?
Nanometer cerium oxide has the advantages of small particle size, uniform particle size distribution, and high purity.
Insoluble in water and alkali, slightly soluble in acid.
Cerium oxide can be used as a polishing material, catalyst, catalyst carrier (promoter), automobile exhaust absorber, ultraviolet absorber, fuel cell electrolyte, electronic ceramics, and so on.
Nano-sized ceria can directly affect the properties of the materials. For example, the addition of ultra-fine nano-ceria to ceramics can reduce the sintering temperature of ceramics, inhibit lattice growth, and improve the compactness of ceramics.
A large specific surface area can better improve the catalytic activity of the catalyst.

Because of its variable valence property, it has good optoelectronic properties. It can be modified by doping in other semiconductor materials to improve the efficiency of light quantum transfer and improve the photoexcitation of the materials.
1. Ultraviolet absorption
According to research, the ultraviolet light of 280nm~320nm can cause suntan, sunburn, and even skin cancer.
The addition of nano-sized cerium oxide to cosmetics can reduce the damage of ultraviolet rays to the human body.
Nanometer cerium oxide has strong UV absorption and can be used as a UV absorber in sunscreen cosmetics, automotive glass, sunscreen fiber, coatings, plastics, and other products.
Cerium oxide is used in sunscreen cosmetics; it has no characteristic absorption of visible light, good permeability, and a good effect of preventing ultraviolet light; and the coating of amorphous silica on cerium oxide can reduce the catalytic activity of cerium oxide, thus preventing the discoloration and deterioration of cosmetics caused by the catalytic activity of cerium oxide.

2. Catalyst.
Cerium oxide is an important catalyst that is widely used in the chemical industry, environmental protection, energy, and other fields.
In the chemical industry, cerium oxide is often used to prepare organic chemicals, such as acrylic acid, acrylate, acrylonitrile, and so on.
In addition, cerium oxide can also be used as a catalyst in the preparation of hydrogen, ammonia, and methanol.
In the field of environmental protection, cerium oxide can be used to purify harmful substances in waste gas, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, and so on.
In addition, cerium oxide can also be used to purify harmful substances in wastewater, such as heavy metal ions, organic compounds, and so on.
In the field of energy, cerium oxide can be used to prepare fuel cells, solar cells, and so on.
In addition, ceria can also be used to prepare energy storage materials, such as cerium oxide lithium batteries and so on.
The addition of nanometer cerium oxide to automobile exhaust cleaner has the following advantages over the addition of non-nanometer cerium oxide: nanometer cerium oxide has the following advantages: large specific surface area, high coating amount, low content of harmful impurities, and increased oxygen storage capacity; nanometer cerium oxide is nanometer, which ensures the high specific surface area of the catalyst in high-temperature atmosphere, thus greatly improving the catalytic activity.
As an additive, it can reduce the amount of platinum and rhodium, automatically adjust the air-fuel ratio and co-catalysis, and improve the thermal stability and mechanical strength of the carrier.
3. Iron and steel industry.
Because of their special atomic structure and activity, rare earth elements can be used as trace additives in steel, cast iron, aluminum, nickel, tungsten, and other materials to eliminate impurities, refine grains, and improve material composition so as to improve the mechanical, physical and processing properties of the alloy and improve the thermal stability and corrosion resistance of the alloy.
For example, in the iron and steel industry, rare earth as an additive can purify molten steel, change the shape and distribution of sundries in the center of steel, refine grains, and change structure and properties.
Nanometer cerium oxide as coating and additive can improve the oxidation resistance, hot corrosion, water corrosion, and vulcanization properties of superalloy and stainless steel. It can also be used as an inoculant for nodular cast iron.
4. Ceramic materials.
Ceria is an important ceramic material that is widely used in the preparation of ceramic products.
In the preparation of ceramic products, cerium oxide can be used as an intensifier, stabilizer, colorant, and so on.
For example, cerium oxide can be used to prepare high-temperature ceramic products, such as ceramic ovens, ceramic stoves, and so on.
In addition, cerium oxide can also be used to prepare ceramic tableware, ceramic vases, ceramic decorations, and so on.
5. Glass materials.
Ceria is an important glass material that is widely used in the preparation of glass products.
In the preparation of glass products, cerium oxide can be used as a colorant, intensifier, stabilizer, and so on.
For example, cerium oxide can be used to prepare blue glass, green glass, purple glass, and so on.
In addition, cerium oxide can also be used to prepare glassware, glass tableware, glass vases, and so on.
6. Applied to medical materials.
Cerium oxide is an important medical material that is widely used in the preparation of pharmaceutical products.
In the preparation of pharmaceutical products, ceria can be used as a drug carrier, drug-controlled release agent, biosensor, and so on.
For example, cerium oxide can be used to prepare tumor therapeutic drugs, antiviral drugs, and so on.
In addition, cerium oxide can also be used to prepare biosensors, such as blood glucose meters, sphygmomanometers, and so on.
7. Apply to other aspects.
Nanometer cerium oxide also has many uses, such as using cerium oxide-based composite oxide as an electrolyte in fuel cells, which can have high enough oxygen dissociation current density at 500 ℃ ~ 800 ℃. Cerium oxide can modify rubber to a certain extent during vulcanization, and cerium oxide also plays an important role in the fields of luminescent materials and magnetic materials.
