Zinc sulfide with multiple superior properties

About Zinc Sulfide
Zinc Sulfide is white or off-white to pale yellow powder. Saw the light dimmed. Stable in dry air, while prolonged exposure to moist air or water contained, will gradually be oxidized into zinc sulfate.
The research on zinc sulfide fluorescent materials has a history of more than 130 years since it was discovered by the French chemist Cido in 1868. From the 1920s to the 1940s, studies of zinc sulfide material have caught much attention.
Zinc sulfide is insoluble in water but soluble in acid. See the sun dim. It is converted to zinc sulfate time in moist air. It is generally derived from the action of hydrogen sulfide and zinc salt solution. If a small amount of copper, manganese, and silver is added as an activator to the crystallized zinc sulfide, it can emit different colors of fluorescence after being irradiated. Reagents for the analysis, coatings, paints, and opaque white glass, filled rubber, plastics, and used to prepare phosphors. It is composed of sulfur and zinc heated together made.
The relative density is 4.087.
The melting point is 1700°C.
Thermal conductivity 25.1w/ (m•K)
Applications of Zinc sulfide
1. Zinc sulfide is used as an infrared optical material, with a transmittance from visible light wavelengths to a little over 12 microns. It can be used as an optical window, planar, or shaped lenses. It is a microchip made of a synthetic gas and zinc vapor, sold as grade FLIR (forward-looking infrared), wherein zinc sulfide milky yellow, opaque form. Early forms of business sales to Iran on behalf of the two, but this name is now obsolete.
2. Zinc sulfide is a common pigment, sometimes called statolith. When combined with barium sulfate, lithopone, zinc sulfide is formed.
3. Zinc sulfide fine powder is an efficient photocatalyst that generates hydrogen from water under the light. Zinc sulfide during the synthesis of sulfur is introduced gaps; ZnS which gradually turned brown yellow-white powder, and to improve the photocatalytic activity by increasing light absorption.
Optical Properties of Zinc Sulfide
The Zinc Sulfide crystal prepared by chemical vapor deposition has a stable transmission curve in the far-infrared region of 8-12μm (8000~12000nm), and the transmittance can reach more than 73%, but it is 3~5μm (3000~5000nm). Transmittance begins to drop, especially in the visible (380 ~ 780nm) region, the transmittance decreased rapidly, the transmission performance deteriorates. After polishing, observing the inside of the lens with the naked eye will appear turbid, resulting in poor transmission performance in the visible light region.
It was found that, after the treatment of such crystals, the internal structural defects can be reduced or eliminated. If strict control of the process conditions during the growth process, the structure will be improved, but they need to deal with full transparency.
The zinc sulfide crystal is used as the window of the infrared detector, the diameter is generally 18~30mm, and the thickness is 1~3mm. Some processes for producing large diameter zinc sulfide window film for large, medium power infrared detectors.
Zinc sulfide is white to off-white or light yellow powder. Saw the light dimmed. Stable in dry air, while prolonged exposure to moist air or water contained, will gradually be oxidized into zinc sulfate. It is soluble in dilute inorganic acid, soluble in alkali, insoluble in water. The relative density is 3.98 (α type), (d25) 4.102 (β type).
About preparation method of Zinc Sulfide
Method 1:
Ammonium acetate is added to the zinc sulfate solution, and hydrogen sulfide with a pH of 2 to 3 is introduced to produce precipitation, filtered, and air-proofed to dry to obtain white crystalline Zinc Sulfide.
Method 2:
A method for preparing fine zinc sulfide in a closed-loop cycle includes the following steps:
Step 1. Mix ZnO solid powder and H2SO4 solution into the first reactor, where the mass ratio of ZnO solid powder to H2SO4 solution is 1:1.52.5, the mass percentage concentration of H2SO4 is 20-25%, and the temperature is 65 75°C. After reacting for 25-35 minutes under these conditions, adjust the pH value of the solution after the reaction to 5.0-5.5 to obtain a doped ZnSO4 solution; then perform impurity removal treatment on the doped ZnSO4 solution to remove nickel, Molybdenum, chromium, copper, lead, iron and other impurities can obtain a pure ZnSO4 solution with impurity content of less than 0.02%.
Step 2. Add the pure ZnSO4 solution and Na2S solution obtained in step 1 into the second reactor, where the mass ratio of ZnSO4 solution to Na2S solution is 2~2.5:1, the mass percentage concentration of Na2S is 20~25%, and the reaction product Use a filter press to perform the first filter press separation to obtain solid crude zinc sulfide with a filter cake moisture not greater than 30% and Na2SO4 content not greater than 5%.
Step 3. Wash the crude zinc sulfide in the washing tank with clean water. After washing, the specific gravity of the solution is controlled to be between 0 and 0.2, and the Na2SO4 content is less than 0.15%;
Step 4. The mixed liquid in the washing tank is separated by a second filter press with filter press. The extracted solid zinc sulfide is dried at 100110, sintered at a high temperature of 745755 for 3050min, and then highly pulverized with a jet mill to obtain fine granular zinc sulfide product with a size of 1000-1500 mesh;
Step 5. After the mixed solution is washed, a second filter press is used for separation. The dialysate contains 0.7-1.7 mass% sodium sulfate and 0.75-0.85 mass% zinc sulfide. The wastewater is sent to the first reactor and mixed with ZnO solid powder and H2SO4 solution to achieve a closed-loop.
Zinc sulfide has superior characteristics in terms of fluorescence
Since the refractive index varies with temperature, in general, the higher the temperature, the higher the refractive index. For the color of transparent or translucent objects, the higher the temperature is, the more opaque the color.
Zinc sulfide crystal is an important infrared transmitting material, with good optical properties in the mid-infrared and far-infrared regions.
Zinc sulfide emits weak green fluorescence under light irradiation. If a small amount of crystalline zinc sulfide Cu (copper), Mn (manganese), Ag (silver) is an activator, it can fluoresce in different colors.
The luminescence mechanism of fluorescence is similar to the principle of color development. Both electrons absorb light energy and transition.
The difference is that fluorescent materials absorb ultraviolet light, while other pigments absorb visible light. Therefore, the color of the fluorescent material can only be seen under ultraviolet light, and the color pigments, in general, to see in visible light.
