Performance of Inconel 718

Inconel 718 is a very popular nickel-based high-temperature alloy with excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength. It has extensive applications in the aerospace, petroleum, and chemical industries. This article will introduce the characteristics, preparation methods, microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of Inconel 718 alloy and prove its excellent performance through experimental data.

Properties and Preparation Methods of Inconel 718 Alloy
Inconel 718 alloy is a nickel-based high-temperature alloy consisting mainly of approximately 50% nickel, 20% chromium, 15% iron, 5% molybdenum, and 3% aluminium. This alloy has excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength and can be used long in high-temperature environments. In addition, In718 alloy has good machinability and welding performance, making it widely used in aerospace, petroleum, and chemical industries.

The preparation method of Inconel 718 alloy mainly includes smelting, casting, and heat treatment. Firstly, the initial billets of Inconel 718 alloy are prepared using methods such as vacuum induction melting or arc melting and then processed into the desired shape and size through processes such as casting or forging. Finally, heat treatment is performed to obtain the best microstructure and mechanical properties.

The microstructure of Inconel 718 alloy is mainly composed of γ Phase γ' Phase γ Composed of phases and carbides. Among them, γ The Phase is the matrix phase, mainly composed of elements such as nickel and chromium; γ' Phase is a solid solution rich in nickel and aluminium, which is the main strengthening phase of In718 alloy; γ Phase is a solid solution rich in iron and chromium, which can further improve the strength and hardness of alloys; carbide is a hard phase that can improve the wear and corrosion resistance of alloys.

Inconel 718 alloy has excellent mechanical properties, with tensile strength and yield strength of ≥ 830MPa and ≥ 415MPa, respectively. In addition, its hardness is HB220~290, and its elongation is ≥ 20%. These excellent mechanical properties enable In718 alloy to have high strength and toughness in high-temperature environments, which can meet the requirement of various complex working conditions.

Inconel 718 alloy has good corrosion resistance and can be used long in various corrosive environments. Its corrosion resistance mainly benefits from its composition design and heat treatment process, which make it have a stable phase composition and good corrosion resistance. Inconel 718 alloy exhibits excellent corrosion resistance from room temperature to high temperature, effectively resisting the erosion of various chemicals.

To further demonstrate the excellent performance of Inconel 718 alloy, we conducted a series of experiments. Firstly, we conducted tensile experiments on Inconel 718 alloy to test its tensile strength and elongation at room temperature. The experimental data indicate that the tensile strength and elongation of Inconel 718 alloy have reached a high level, consistent with the theoretical values.

Next, we conducted hardness tests on Inconel 718 alloy to evaluate its hardness and wear resistance. The experimental results indicate that the hardness value of Inconel 718 alloy is HB220~290, which meets the expected requirements. In addition, its wear resistance and corrosion resistance have also been well demonstrated.

Finally, we conducted high-temperature creep experiments on Inconel 718 alloy to test its creep performance in high-temperature environments. The experimental results indicate that Inconel 718 alloy has good creep resistance in high-temperature environments, which can meet the requirements of high-temperature working conditions.

This article introduces the characteristics, preparation methods, microstructure, mechanical properties, and corrosion resistance of Inconel 718 alloy. The experimental results indicate that Inconel 718 alloy has excellent corrosion resistance and high-temperature strength, which can meet the requirement of various complex working conditions. Therefore, Inconel 718 alloy has broad application prospects in aerospace, petroleum, and chemical industries.
