Boron phosphide is an inorganic compound composed of boron and phosphorus, which is a semiconductor material. Boron phosphide does not react with boiling concentrated acid or alkali solutions but may react with molten alkali (such as sodium hydroxide) after preheating. When exposed to air, boron phosphide can resist oxidation up to 1000°C and react with chlorine at around 500°C. The stability of the compound can be maintained at a high pressure of 2500°C, and under vacuum heating above 1100°C, part of the phosphorus will be lost to form B12p1 1.8, which has a crystal structure similar to boron carbide.

Due to different production methods, boron phosphide has red transparent, dark red transparent, black crystals, or soft brown amorphous materials. Chemically stable. Pure boron phosphide is almost transparent, N-type crystals are orange-red, and P-type crystals are dark red.
