What color is molybdenum powder?

What is Molybdenum powder?
Molybdenum powder is dark grey in appearance, uniform in colour, free of lumps and visible inclusions, and is a powdery object. Molybdenum powder is usually prepared by reducing ammonium paramolybdate or calcined MoO3 with hydrogen, which is the raw material for preparing molybdenum deep-processed products by powder metallurgy.

Molybdenum, the chemical symbol Mo, with an atomic number of 42, is a transition metal element. Molybdenum has a high melting point, ranking sixth among simple substances in nature, and is called refractory metal. The density of molybdenum is 10.23g/cm3, which is about half that of tungsten (tungsten density is 19.36g/cm3). The thermal expansion coefficient of molybdenum is very low; Molybdenum has high thermal conductivity. The hardness of molybdenum is high, and the Mohs hardness is 5~5.5. The heat of vaporization of molybdenum at the boiling point is 594 KJ/mol; The heat of fusion is 27.6 2.9 KJ/mol; The sublimation heat at 25is 659 kJ/mol. The chemical properties of molybdenum are relatively stable. Or at normal temperature or not too high temperature, molybdenum is stable in air or water.
Molybdenum powder is divided into light molybdenum powder (PCC) and molybdenum powder (GCC). The characteristics of molybdenum powder are that the colour, particle size, surface characteristics, dispersion, rheology, thixotropy and crystal form can be manually controlled. Moreover, molybdenum powder has high chemical purity, strong chemical inertness and good thermal stability, and will not decompose below 400 degrees Celsius. In addition, molybdenum powder has the advantages of a low oil absorption rate, low hardness, small wear value, no toxicity, no smell, no taste, good dispersibility, etc.
Applications of Molybdenum powder
Like tungsten, molybdenum is a refractory rare metal. The application of molybdenum in the iron and steel industry occupies a very important position, accounting for about 80% of the total molybdenum consumption, followed by the chemical industry, accounting for about 10%. In addition, molybdenum is also used in electrical and electronic technology, medicine and agriculture, accounting for about 10% of the total consumption.
Alloy field: Molybdenum is widely consumed in the steel industry, mainly used to produce alloy steel (about 43% of the total consumption of molybdenum in steel), stainless steel (about 23%), tool steel and high-speed steel (about 8%), cast iron and rollers (about 6%). Most molybdenum is briquettes with industrial molybdenum oxide and then directly used in steelmaking or cast iron, while a few are melted into ferromolybdenum before being used in steelmaking.
Chemical field: Molybdenum dioxide is a good solid lubricant. Because of its low friction coefficient and high yield strength, it can be used normally in a vacuum and various low and high temperatures, so it is widely used in a gas turbine, gear, mould, aerospace, nuclear industry and other fields.
Catalyst : Molybdenum compound is one of the widely used catalysts, which is widely used in chemical, petroleum, plastic, textile and other industries. For example, molybdenum disulfide is a promising C1 chemical catalyst, which has sulfur resistance and can catalyze the hydrogenation of carbon monoxide to produce alcohols under certain conditions. Combined with molybdenum, cobalt and nickel, it is used as a catalyst for petroleum refining pretreatment. Other common molybdenum-containing catalysts include molybdenum disulfide, molybdenum oxide, molybdate, ammonium paramolybdate, etc.
Manufacturing method of Molybdenum powder
1. By plasma reduction method, non-spherical molybdenum powder particles are added into a plasma jet, so that the surface or the whole particles are in a molten state, and the surface tension of molten droplets is utilized to contract to form spherical particles. Then, the metal vapour is rapidly condensed by a cooling jet, thus obtaining ultrafine metal powder with a specific surface area as high as 200m2/g... The average particle size of molybdenum powder obtained by this method is 30nm~50nm, which is suitable for spherical powder for thermal spraying. Nano-molybdenum powder prepared by microwave method has higher purity, better morphology, and higher bulk density, but higher production cost.
2. Molybdenum chloride vapour hydrogen reduction method Researchers used the mixture of MoCl5 and MoO2Cl2 as raw materials and adopted the plasma hydrogen reduction method. The process parameters were: 200A and 120V, the temperature of 3200, chloride consumption of 100g/min, hydrogen consumption of 74L/min, and a yield of 90%. Ultrafine molybdenum powder with a specific surface area of 9.6m2/g and oxygen content of 0.6% was obtained. Ann C. Starck Company reduced MoCl5 or MoCl6 with pure hydrogen to produce molybdenum powder with 1nm~50nm impurity content < 1000 mg/kg and < 200 mg/kg.
3. Molybdenum chloride pyrolysis takes Molybdenum concentrate (MoS2) as raw material, and reacts with chlorine at 250~300to form MoCl5, and the reaction formula is 2MoS2+5Cl22MoCl5+2S2. The pure molybdenum powder product is obtained by high-temperature heating decomposition, and its reaction formula is 2MoCl52Mo+5Cl2. The process is simple, the purity of the product is high, and it can be used as a metal or nonmetal surface coating material to enhance the corrosion resistance and high-temperature resistance of the material. However, this method requires high purity of raw materials, and chlorine gas is used in production, so attention should be paid to environmental protection and safety.
Price of Molybdenum powder
Molybdenum powder particle size and purity will affect the product's price, and the purchase volume can also affect the cost of Molybdenum powder. A large amount of large amount will be lower. The price of Molybdenum powder can be found on our company's official website.
