The products were characterized by polarized light, scanning electron, and X-ray diffraction. Tabular habit AlB2 particles precipitated in the aluminum matrix. AlB2 flakes are around 10. Using borax instead of elemental boron as starting material makes this process more economical than previous methods. However, the enhancement of efficiency is still a challenge. AlB2 particles enhance the wear resistance of aluminum diboride-reinforced aluminum matrix composites.
