What is Wurtzite hexagonal zinc sulfide?
Wurtzite Hexagonal zinc sulfide is produced from mixed-crystal products at high temperatures for higher purity. The geometry of the hexagonal zinc sulfide crystal structure is in the form of a hexagonal column, with the cell consisting of six faces. Each cell consists of a zinc ion and a sulfur ion, with the zinc ion located in the center of the cell and the sulfur ion arranged in a hexagonal shape around the zinc ion.
Characteristics of Wurtzite hexagonal zinc sulfide:
Hexagonal zinc sulfide is a semiconductor material with a unique structure.
Structure: Hexagonal crystal system, also known as hexagonal zinc sulfide type structure (hexagonal α-ZnS structure). In the case of zinc sulfide, for example, the S atoms are densely packed in a hexagonal pattern, and the Zn atoms fill in half of the tetrahedral voids.
Symmetry: The hexagonal cells of ZnS crystals have hexagonal axial symmetry, i.e., the cells rotate 360 degrees around the crystal axis and then coincide. This symmetry gives the zinc sulfide crystals their uniform structure and properties.
Crystal arrangement: Zinc and sulfur ions in zinc sulfide crystals attract each other through ionic bonding and are tightly arranged in the crystal cell. This high-density crystal arrangement gives zinc sulfide crystals high hardness and stability.
Advantages of Wurtzite hexagonal zinc sulfide:
Higher thermal and chemical stability;
Good optical properties;
Higher refractive index and lower spontaneous emissivity;
Excellent electrical properties;
Large forbidden bandwidth and high carrier mobility;
The electrical properties can be changed by doping to modulate the performance.
Application of Wurtzite hexagonal zinc sulfide:
Wurtzite Hexagonal zinc sulfide is a vital semiconductor material with many applications. Hexagonal zinc sulfide crystals have essential applications in electronics, optics and photonics.
