How is Hafnium Silicide HfSi2 Powder produced?
High purity HfSi2 powder was prepared by molten salt-assisted magnesium heat reduction.
In this work, the high purity HfSi2 powder was successfully produced by a molten salt-assisted magnesium thermal reduction method by using HfO2 and Si as raw material. The system studied the effects of reaction temperature and time on HfSi2 formation. The morphology and phase compositions used as the prepared HfSi2 powder were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and nitrogen/oxygen assay. The results show that the obtained HfSi2 powder has an orthogonal structure of about 6.4 μm, and the oxygen content is as low as 0.20%. This work can provide a new way to make a high-purity transition metal silicide powder.
