Development of Multi-Filament Textured-Powder Bi-2212/Ag Wire with Enhanced Local Area Ratio
ATC has developed a new method for making high-performance Bi-2212/Ag superconducting wire with a favorable local area ratio (LAR)=Ag: Bi-2212. The method begins by texturing a fine powder of Bi-2212: the powder is loaded uniformly into an open-sided silver foil channel, the flaps of foil are folded over the powder filling, and the package is hydraulically com-pressed in a die set to form a textured powder (T.P.) bar. XRD analysis of the interior powder in a compressed bar shows a texture of 80% after 200 MPa compression. Unadulterated, real Bismuth will break easily, revealing the beautiful sheen within, and you can melt it with an ordinary blowtorch. Counterfeit Bismuth is rare because many legitimate dealers guarantee the quality and purity of their minerals, including rainbow bismuth ore. Mainly mined in Bolivia, Peru, Japan, Mexico, and Canada in relatively small quantities: only about 3000 tonnes per year. Although Bismuth is not economical to mine, it is more commonly produced as a byproduct while processing other metal ores. (inc. Lead, copper, and tin). Each one is grown by hand in our laboratory workshop, and these are the cream of the crop -exceptionally rare gold bismuth crystals. Unlike lead, mercury, nickel, or other metals, there is no significant health risk from vapors, touching Bismuth, or ingesting small amounts (it's the active ingredient in a popular brand of stomach medicine). Introduction Bismuth subgallate (B.S.) is a yellow and odorless powder with hemostatic astringent properties. Some otorhinolaryngologists and dentists currently use this substance to enhance wound healing. Bismuth colloids are antibacterial, which is relevant for treating infectious diarrhea and peptic ulcers (e.g., Helicobacter pylori). The salicylate component of bismuth subsalicylate may exert intestinal antiinflammatory and antisecretory actions. Bismuth salicylate has significantly inhibited the growth of all the bacteria tested and the pathogenic yeast, C. albicans, with inhibition increasing with increasing bismuth concentration and length of exposure. Bismuth subsalicylate is an antidiarrheal and antiinflammatory agent used to treat nausea, indigestion, upset stomach, and other temporary discomforts of the stomach and gastrointestinal tract.
