Properties of antimony powder

Antimony is a glossy silver-white metal. Relative density 6.68; Melting point 630℃; Boiling point 1635℃, 1440℃ have also been reported. Soluble in hot concentrated sulfuric acid, aqua regia, insoluble in water. Flammable in case of an open fire and high heat. Powder and air can form an explosive mixture; when it reaches a certain concentration, it will explode when it meets Mars.

 

Preparation of antimony powder

The antimony block was added to the reactor and chlorinated with chlorine gas to obtain crude antimony trichloride. Crude antimony trichloride is placed in a still, antimony pentachloride, and other impurities are removed by vacuum distillation and then distilled at atmospheric pressure. The purity of antimony was not less than 99.999% after a reduction of 221 ~ 225℃. The purity of high-purity antimony is not less than 99. 9999% after being purified by double distillation.

High-purity antimony prepares group Ⅲ ~ V compound semiconductors, high-purity alloys, antimony sulfide, refrigeration components and silicon, and germanium single-crystal dopants.
